View Full Version : Linkin Park where are thou ?

Today, I was in a music mood. So I went to look for some old cds. In the mess I found an album called "Hybrid Theory".
Linkin Park I recall, suddenly all these memories come back to me. I used to listen to that album 14/7. I plug my stereo and remember the old days. Damn, that's what I call good stuff. Not to heavy and not to soft, a perfect combination. :D
I decided to listen to their second album: Reanimation.
One of my favourite albums I recalled myself. The mix between electronic and rock is very good, some really fresh songs, and of course my all time favourite song, Crawling remix, I recommend this song to everyone, its a combination of rock and violins; with the special appearance of Aaron Lewis, staind's leading man.
Exited like a kid waiting for Christmas I plug in their 3rd album just to be immensely disappointed. This was pure crap; their fresh tunes had become some heavy loud sound and to be honest, most of the guitars had been replaced by fake electronic sounds; it sounds more like pop than rock.
Oh yes, Mike Shinoda, please stop with the fake rap. I was immensely disappointed.
I tried live at Texas, that one was pretty good, but it was just some live songs.
I did some research and found they had an album with jay z. I borrow it from a friend, and oh mine, that really sucks. No comment on that. :|
They havn’t come out with an album in 3 years ! :frown:

Meteora was released in early 2003, so it's only been around two years. :p You should try following Nine Inch Nails, it's been six years since their last album. :p Or maybe Guns N Roses (10 years). :D

Do you need a forum to validate your opinion that his opinion is not correct? He's entitled to his opinion just as you are yours. Even if he was doing this at concerts of bands I like....I would still find what he does hilarious. You have a right to not visit his website if you choose.
"That website is stupid, I could make a site that has a list of about ten bands and say that if you like them you have bad taste in music."
Indeed you could, but would you have the balls to go to the concerts of those ten bands that you don't like with a bullhorn and do what he does? I'm not saying it's right....just that I think it's funny, and that he's a brave man.

and i also think that a new album will be on the way...They just did their collaboration album...just like reanimation which had meteora following...

Linkin Park is crappy lyrics put to a almost techno background, most of their songs sound the same and for some reason they have a fixation with bad animation and black clothing.
Linkin' Park is a roller coster....

WHAT?? Many people wear black and they do wear other stuff...Was there a point to that commnet - they dont go gothic, just dress as they want to...Do you dress according to what music you listen to...Oddities!
StardogChampion

Dalamari's right. The lyrics are laughable. The rock guy doesn't seem smart enough to write decent lyrics, his lyrics are so obvious.
I've heard songs entirely about drugs that don't mention the word drugs once. I've heard songs about pain and loneliness without the words pain and loneliness in the lyrics, Linkin Park seem to dumb to be able to do this. Metaphor is not a word in their dictionary.

Indid, their music suck ass, just look at the guitar tabs, they all look alike. Lyrics do suck, with Mikes hinoda's lame rap. They need to change their crappy guitarist, fire the dj, and get some better lyrics.

Yes, jeans and band shirts, a universal combo.
But there is a difference between dressing how you want and having makeup people dress you to have a certain look, I could care less how people dress day to day, but when the people above you dress you to have a certain look, that is a whole different thing.

HaHa...I love how people say shit like "Metal music is suicide inducing" "it makes me want to slit my wrists" thats just media-hype bullshit. If you listen to it, LISTEN....then you'll realise there is so much more emotion and power in the lyrics...People just stereotype Metal, Goth or punk whatever into suicidal music, because a few people who killed listened to marilyn manson, that shit is just an excuse to not blame the parents! Stop being a ****ing ******, and open your ears, and Evanescence is pop. And if you read a Kerrang interview with her, you will see she considers her self a gothic outcast who does nothing but sit and home and write lyrics.

There maybe is a lot of force behind the songs, but all I hear is death and decay, show me one metal song that is about something nice and happy. I hate Evanescence, but atleast their lyrics don't consist of grunting or playing a guitar like OJ killing his wife.

Nah I never ever ever liked them, not really my scene, so i don't think it's cool to hate them. The reason I dislike them is because to me they seem to have no musical talent, to some people music talent means how fast you can move up and down a fret board, to me it means crafting a song with good lyrics and clever timings and such.
*On Topic* Linkin' Park do not meet these requirements either.

Linkin Park was created using a formula created to exploit the "troubled teen" culture with the sole desire to make money using the smallest amount of effort possible. All you need to do is have strained singing and screaming of a jumble of phrases that together mean nothing and set it to maybe three distinct chord patterns that you can mix and remix a dozen different ways. This way you can create an instantly popular band that turns heavy profits, with a minimal amount of talent and recording costs. Why do you think the band has only turned two albums of new material in 6 years? Remixes excluded, of course.
Face it. Linkin Park was created to make money first and music second. If you're okay with that then I don't have a problem.

Hybrid Theory was and is, my favorite album. Meteora is generic and watered down, pretty much poo compared to the first album. Mike can rap with the best of them, download "Rock and Roll Could never Hip-Hop like this part 2", "Its going down" "And One" "Fuse" "STick n Move". He is an amazing lyric writter, just doesnt show it on meteora, or hybrid that much when it comes to rap. Anything linkin park does without their producer Don Gilmore is great, anything with, like Meteora, comes out pop. Mike and Chester have alot of talents and are very gifted, but i cant say much about their guitarist

Look. I don't think it's "cool" to hate any band, but I'd have to say that Linkin' Park is one of the worst bands I've ever heard. I like a LOT of music, (classic, metal, funk, some rap, jazz, etc), so I'm not dismissing LP as crap just because it's a certain genre. The problem is, there's no substance. It's all pure angst, marketed for teenage kids who feel like they're the most tragically misunderstood people in the world. The lyrics seem deep at first, but when you actually think about them, you realize they simply SOUND that way.
example:
"crawling in my skin
these wounds they will not heal
fear is how I fall
confusing what is real"
Linkin' Park, among oh-so many other popular bands of today, were created simply to make money. To anyone looking for good stuff, I would recommend the following:
Rock:
Rage Against the Machine, RHCP, The Mooney Suzukie, The Shins, Tool, Interpol, and many others
Classic Rock:
Hendrix, the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Clapton, the Who, Led Zeppelin, King Crimson, etc.
Rap/Hip Hop:
anything underground
Funk:
whatever sounds good

They used the name Linkin Park, (besides being forced to due to copyright reasons) because there was a lincoln park in almost every other city in the US, and they thought it would be funny if people could think they were a local band. Odd sense of humour, I know.

I define rock as anything that relies mainly on guitar, drums, bass and vocals, and also sounds good and plays for the love of it. Hence, Interpol= rock. Oh, and I had to get stuff done, so I couldn't expand on Rap or Funk, but lemme think...
Rap:
Insight, Gang Starr, Jedi Mind Tricks, Mr. Lif, Run DMC, Talib Kweli, Jurassic 5, Del (and all of his groups), Ozomatli... that's all I can think of right now.
Funk:
Sam and Dave, George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic, the Spinners (kind of), Tower of Power, Stevie Wonder, Robert Randolph (kind of rock also, though), Jamiroquai, Dirtbomb (sort of), Cameo, and whatever.

Hybrid Theory was OK, but i like ZZ Top! Stick with the classics, most of them have something constructive to say. I am 15, and i really don't identify with the sucidal, misunderstood "teenagers."
These aforementioned teens were created to open a new market, most of the people i know are actually really upbeat vs. the outcast sh*t.
Metallica is good, but i greatly dislike Unforgiven, if you listen to the lyrics, they say the same thing over and over again (the intro was good though) My favorite Metalica song has got to be Blitzkrieg. Master of Puppets is good too.

Damnit, you people are being frickin' retarded. It's simple; you either like the music, or you do not. Now, don't hold me to this (Because I'm not trying to evade any forms of obvious logic here) but when a thread is made about a band, isn't it 90% assumable that it's about the bands music, not about the actual band? Ofcourse, assumption is the mother of all ****-ups. I don't care if Chester is gay, or Mike isn't black but still raps, I really don't. If I like the music, I'll listen to it. You think the band is there to just make money? Fine, but do you like the music? No? Then don't listen, and be off on your day. Yes? Then buy their album, and listen to it.

thank you top secret...thats the point i try to get across to people ALL the time but they never listen...Many people say 'if you like the music, well and good' but often they dont mean it and you will find them saying...that band is gay or its crap, etc, etc, etc.
If you like it...listen to it, no matter what it is.
