I was just wondering if battlefield vietnam was a mod of battlefield 1942 or if it was just named like it because it was part of the franchise. Anyone have any idea about this?

Its part of the franchise. Same concept, different engine. No, its not a mod, its a very different game.

why do you think they still sell it for $40 when bf1942 is $20? :)

BFV is a entirely different game, but on BF1942 website it says they released a mod for BFV that has original BF1942 maps etc,so you might of got mixed up by that, because I did.

The shop where I bought BF:V (almost a year ago, on release), thought it was an add-on so I got a good discount. They only found out two weeks later that it wasn't. I don't mind; I am still playing BFV almost daily, so I can safely say it's the best 30 euro I ever spent.

I would agree. Nothing so far in Multi-Player has the rush of fighting on the ground and having a helicopter over head playing Fortunate Son while it flies round protecting the flag area.

Its magic I tell you!

don't forget to mention the more skilled pilots (aka... modest me!) who pickup apcs in a heli and use them to swat ground troops....... cept they don't really stay ina group so its kinda futile

Completely different game of bf1942. I don't recommend it.

BFV has the same basic concept as BF42 but it's a very different feel.

The coding is optimized horrible so it's not too great of a buy if you have a lower system (It still plays shakily on low settings) but if your computer can run it smoothly, it's pretty fun and addictive.

same engine, modified a little.

feels more like a mod to bf1942 then an entire seperate game to me.

definitely not worth the money.

I absolutely hated Battlefield: Vietnam. Biggest waste of my money ever, I should have bought Planescape: Torment.

well i personally liked it... but this is a debate lots of people have... if it's worth it. In my opinion, if your looking for a game basically like bf1942, but in a different era, then u should def buy this game. It's not a bad game at all, and they update it w/ new stuff all the time. Theirs been tons of new vehicles and maps and weapons since it's release... not to mention TUNNELS!!

I've been wondering if I should get BF:V or not...
Seeing as I love Eve of Destruction(nam mod for bf1942) to death.
But I hate extreme jungle warfare(ie: Vietcong).
Currently the two games I'm wondering on getting are either...
Call of Duty(with the exp pack)
or BF:V.
Suggestions?

Desert Combat is way better, and it is free.

Serously, I hate Vietnam. But Battlefield 1942 is still my favorite game. Eve of Destruction was great (though I didn't like it as mush as the original) and I personnaly think that it is so similar to Vietnam, that the 40$ doesn't worth it. You just get new maps which a lot is jungle.

It's a different feel with new elements yet similar tactics as BF1942.

I loved BFV since I play with a bunch of guys I know. There was just something different about it compaired to BF1942. Jump in a helicopter with the music playing and look down as your feet dangle from the back.

Although some really liked 1942 and since this is such a different feel, there will be different opinions. Desert Combat was an excelent mod for BF1942 though. Can't wait for BF2. ;)
