I hear you guys talking about all this new age music that sounds like shit to me. I was just wondering if you guys liked good old fashioned Led Zeppelin.

Yes I do and stairway to heaven is not my favorite song contrary to that damn quiz.

Zeps good. Not my fav, but I respect it and do enjoy some of their songs.
Led Zep are great. Not my favourite band, but they're tons of fun once in a while. Favourite albums would be II and IV. I'm not that big a Stairway fan myself; I tend to like their more "down-and-dirty" stuff like Black Dog and Rock And Roll.

Led Zeppelin are brilliant, but if I was going to choose anything "old fashioned" I'd stick with Lynyrd Skynyrd. :)

If you're looking for an album, definately get "pronounced leh-nerd skin-erd". That one's got a couple of classics on it (namely Tuesday's Gone and Free Bird), and is always a good start. If you're not much on southern-style rock, you probably won't like it (except Free Bird; EVERYONE likes that one :) ), but they're definately one of the best US rock bands I've listened to in a long time; and they kick the crap out of a lot of modern US rock bands as well. :p
You've probably already heard Sweet Home Alabama a few thousand times, so you don't have to get that one. :p

I love Led Zeppelin - although Tool and Nine Inch Nails have replaced them as my favorite artist.

Led Zep, the seminal band of rock, without them, music would be a lot different than it is now.

Yeah, I only like a few of their songs. The Ocean, Stairway to Heaven, Kashmir and a Whole Lotta Love. The rest that I listened to weren't too hot.

I listened to that today actually - God it's amazing. :)
I wouldn't say they're over-rated necessarily, but their pretentiousness can be a bit wearing at times...
"What, Jimmy? You want another guitar solo? But you've already got four... Alright alright, but only so long as we can have another verse where I get to squeal a lot."
"Hmmm... Ok Robert, but John wants a drum solo that lasts four minutes, doesn't really go anywhere and doesn't actually sound so great."
"Sure, why not. How long is this song going to be?"
"Erm - half an hour."
"Perfect. What's that John Paul? No you can't have a f*cking bass solo, you demanding bastard. For God's sake, where are we going to fit that in!? Now shut up and do as you're told."

no, ditching your fans to hit a larger audience means selling out. I dunno this whole "selling out" thing is pretty lame, either you like their newer music or you don't... i personly hated st. anger....

:) No, but I just thought it was funny how they all got to show off except for John Paul Jones. He was a good bassist too, but ultimately a bit forgettable. I always have trouble remembering his name, like all the other anonyous bassists named John: John Deacon of Queen (the blandest non-entity ever to step into tiny shorts and play an instrument); John Entwistle of The Who; John the bassist from The Libertines (buggered if I know his last name) to name just three examples.
Part of me wishes the bassist for Led Zeppelin was Pope John Paul II, but that's another story for another day.

Okay, so how about when you make a band you write and perform the same tired shit for 20 years and see if you don't feel like a change? They tried something different, people are bound not to like it, so don't make a big thing out of it because you built them up into something they're not.

I heard of Stairway to Heaven, since i'm a guitar player heh. And never really payed much attention to them, then one day one of my best buds sent me over AIM every single cd of zepplin (there his fav band) and i'm really enjoying it, blast to learn to play to.

They tried something different, people are bound not to like it, so don't make a big thing out of it because you built them up into something they're not. It's great that they're trying new things, but when they do songs like "Invisible Kid" at 45-years-old, "sell out" immediately comes to mind. They toned down and went for the money, plain and simple. And it worked, to an extent - they alienated a ton of people but made up for it in new fans. To say Metallica didn't chase the money is like saying In Flames got bored of being a great death metal band, so they decided to become a shitty nu-metal (not that nu-metal is inheretly shitty, but that In Flames have become shitty).
Thread hijack, sorry.

They were awesome, but after listening to them since I was a kid, I'm bored of all but about 2 of their songs. But I agree that How The West Was Won is a great set.
I never got bored of most of Pink Floyd's songs even though I've been listening to them for about the same length of time. Led Zeppelin is just too repetitive and relied on their ground breaking 'sound', which lost it's punch.
Their influence may have been greater than any other band.
