View Full Version : Exchanging AMD athlon xp3000+ for AMD 64 2800+?

can some one tell me if i can simply swap my amd athlon xp3000+ for a amd 64 2800+

as the 3000+ model is 32bit and the 2800+ is 64bit.......i just wanted my pc to be ready for the future thats all, and i was told that i would need to upgrade my processor

ive already bought an extra 512mb of RAM (now equalling 1gb)

so could you please give me the info i need to exchange the models and if its as easy as that :cheers:

NO. A64 2800+ and XP 3000+ are completely different sockets.

Save up, and get a 3200+ A64 and an Asus A8V Deluxe.

I hope you bought PC3200 ram. Or else you just threw away your cash.

MSI makes some pretty good motherboards if you're on a budget.

Also, you might consider taking back that RAM if you're thinking about using it for a new system; The Athlon64 is really picky about RAM.

Actually, I heard Intel is planning on releasing their line of 64-bit processors in April. If you wait a few months, you can probably get a really good deal on a 64-bit processor when the price wars begin.

Yeah, I'm waiting until the 64-bit processors start becoming cheaper and more popular.

Was thinking of getting a P4 HT in the meantime, but then I thought pfffft, not gonna buy a new processor, mobo and RAM only to do it again later on in the year.
