View Full Version : Robots.
In this thread we'll present robots we drew. but there are rules:
1. Don't present silly things like stickmen.
2. Make your works look good, not something like "1 minute work in MS paint."
3. You can present every kind of robots- Battle mech's, work robots, house robots and many others.
Here are my works. Made with colour pens.
Info for Valve- you can use them in Half-Life 3.

Hooray for robots! Robots rule! Ahem. Nobody replied to this thread yet? Well, here's two robots I did about a year ago...
Quentin the Robot (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v108/Sulkdodds/Two%20Fat%20Robots/quentin.gif)
Winston the Smashinator (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v108/Sulkdodds/Two%20Fat%20Robots/winston.jpg)
house robots
You mean like houseboats? Kind of like mobile homes on legs. What an intriguing idea... /me ponders the possibilties. :D

I thought by house robots he meant servile domestic machines ;) But walking houses are good...
I love robots! If someone draws a robot they can do no wrong :D
I've got a heap of concepts someplace, I'll scan them in when I get the chance.

Can I just say, for the record, that the edit time for posts in Art and Design or Fan Fiction should be greatly increased?
Anyway, I found an old pic of Lennie I made. It's actually an old experiment I made with lighting and shading techniques (and thus he looks insanely crowded, what with the extreme dark and the extreme light halves) but it's the only robot image I have stored on this machine...

More of the same, 'cept this time he doesn't look like he's been the latest victim of a spray-gun wielding Triffid.
I like Brian's scuttler and crab's sword-holding guard droid thingy :D

Legs are a bit off- but I'll presume that's deliberate, 'cos it gives him heaps of character! Something always annoys me slightly when robots are portrayed as perfectly formed examples of equisitely realised technology- I'd say that if they ever become common sights the vast majority will be purely functional and not especially pleasing to the eye.
Talking of eyes... eerie glowing = win :D

Yeah, I mean he's by no means well drawn or anything, but I like to draw robots abit "miserable" with 'off' positions and perhaps being abandoned.. There's something about an abandoned, old rusty sad robot.

Yeah, reminds me of that film... the really long one... AI
But I don't think we'll actually get to the level of artificial skin anytime soon. (I mean artificial nerves. Like Data in First Contact if you get what I mean)

Hmm... Wonder why I didn't post in this thread yet.
Here is one I made for an unofficial art competition some time ago.
http://img164.exs.cx/img164/1138/Gman_SideKick.jpg
And here is one I STARTED (hardly work on it anymore...) All in MS Paint (Yeah it's my favorite program) and all with the mouse. Mostly the line tool, and ellipse tool. I also didn't do any kind of skeleton. All done with just eyeballing it. Really proud of it even though it is unfinished :)

That thing's awesome Mech. But then again I've always been a sucker for semi-humanoid killing machines :D
Although possibly he's just a misunderstood catering 'bot with homicidal tendencies, right?
Veg- you drew that second one in Paint? Woo. Must've taken ages... I usually make low quality things myself and try to disguise the fact with colour fills ;)

Another robot. Is he a harmless engineering and repairing bot, or is he a merciless destroyer of worlds? You decide.
I'd appreciate any kind of critique, I really really need it. :)

Ah, now that I like! Note that although I'm a cyber-freak I don't heap praise on everything mechanical, so take any comments at face value- when I say it's good I mean it's good!
The shading is brilliant, especially the subtle play of the light produced from what I'm taking to be an eye- although I will say the yellow portions are perhaps a bit too brightly shaded. Garish, perhaps, but that's probably the effect you wanted...
