If you have half life 2 already you can extract the sound files out of the GCF's using gcfscape(google it)

I keep getting this error: Could not open: D:\gimp\steamApps\source sounds.gcf

Error: Failed to map GCF file to memory
Make sure the file is not already open and that steam is not running.

I closed steam and i dont know how i could open the file so can someone help me?

you need some windows framework, net frame something, i cant remeber the name, go to windows update and download it, then you can use GCF scape, its really good. Just take all those songs and start groovin' to da ch00ns! hehe
edit: Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 (thats it! go find it)

ooh thats a pickle. Well try restarting and not opening steam once you turn it back on, then doing it. you are opening the .gcf's right in the your@email.com folder? Open gcf scape, open, then browse for them. You may have done that already, just trying to cover all bases.
edit: bliiink just stole my idea...she knows nothing! :D

Close steam, reboot without opening steam and then try.. I had the same problem and that fixed it for me.

Well either dont connect to your ISP, or type 'msconfig' in run, find the 'startup' tab on the top, and find steam.exe in the list and untick it. Anyway i dont think it matters, just reboot your system and it should work then.

As well as right clicking and selecting 'exit' on the steam icon also go into task manager (ctr-alt-delete) and go to processes. steam.exe will prob still be running even after you 'exited' it so end the process and that should do it,

Need more space on your hard-drive probably...though it does seem odd
