Good 1. Glad to hear. I've just got my new mobo (MSI K8N), CPU (AMD Winchester 3000) & RAM (1GB 400mhz PC3200) in the post so I'm hoping this will help when running HL2 ............. Shame I sent it back :-)

Yeah, I'll be putting mine up to 1GB from the after Christmas sales (from 768mb).. I hope it makes the difference.. but I've heard that people with 2gb of ram can still have stutters.

Sadly this is true :( How much does it take?

2GB is overkill really and HL2 will not take advantage over it.. hell even 1gb the game will not use at its full and my pagefile is 2500mb. I recommend anyone with 512mb or less to get 1gb thats more important then a new videocard since ram is always good or if you want good graphics but jerky ones then be my guest.

I went from 1.5 to 2... and it hasnt changed for me,, which leads me to believe its definately the way its configured... or HL2 isnt compatable with one of my 512mb sticks..? that could cause it to mess up,, if its looking for that extra 512, and it doesnt like it, then it gets bummed out i suppose...
jee.. im so upity about this,, I hope valve catch onto why some of us are having this problem soon.. so we could maybe atleast manually put it right.

I did the same thing on Monday, bought another 512mb of RAM so now I have 1 gig, about 99% of the stuttering is gone. When I stepped off the train at the beginning and it didn't stutter when Breen starts talking, i was like 'omfg :D'

Like I say, I find the stutter is totally related to harddrive access, which makes me wonder if for some people with 1 Gig, the access is reduced.
Defragging reduced stutter as well, so maybe some people with 1+ Gig and stutters need to defrag? Seems a bit doubtful.

:P It must have been like a moment of deliverance. Marvelous. The holy grail of HL2 gaming - Breen speaks & the world doesn't stutter.

I've got 1GB on an AMD64 and get very little stutter since I upgraded my Radeon 9800 drivers. (Beta once from Driverheaven, not the one from the ATI site). What stutter remains is still a bug in the game in my opinion that Valve should fix, or have ironed out before they started selling the thing.
