I'm wondering if I should bother buying the game right now or will it run like crap on my system?

you will get 40-60 fps on 1024 x 768, medium details. i have a similar computer, and it's pretty good.

I've got a Ti4200 and it runs quite well on it.

Man, you've got some phobia or what? Your comp is still fine.

Just because you dont have the latest and greatest tech doesn't mean you'll miss out on the experience.
Those GF4 cards are still solid, you shouldn't be disappointed

You won't get dx9 effects...but the dx8 effects are almost as good and still look very nice. My old comp runs HL2 surprisingly well (I sold it to my friend a few years ago for like $200)
AMD 1.3ghz
512mb ram
GF Ti4200 64mb
He gets like 30-40 fps on medium details and 1024x768.

Dude, i have a crapper graphics card, i played on it on 1280x1024 with everything on Mid, no AA or AF(card wont do anything different with it on), it looked great, so you are set

If I can get easily-playable performance with all details high (no AA/AF) on this kind of system:
AthlonXP 1800+
512MB PC1700 DDR RAM
ATi Radeon 8500LE 128MB
then you're all set.

Thanks for all the input!
I was wondering only because I've been playing Doom3 and it has lower requirements than HL2. It runs decent, but I sort of figured I'd be able to run it with higher settings. I hate missing out on gore and details.
Much appreciated!

It's the other way around; half-life 2 has lower requirements than doom 3.

Yeah, HL2's requirements are lower than Doom's last I checked.
Athlon XP 2000+
512 MB RAM
GeForce FX 5200
And I'm running the game fine with only a little bit of slowdown when there's tons and tons of stuff going on :p

Ok, gotta say I took everyone's advice and went out and got the game today. Been playing for the past few hours and aside from a few glitches in the beginning, the game looks and runs great!
Had a few crashing problems so I backed off on my Vid Cards overclocking a bit and it's running fine now.
Thanks for all the advice.
