Good luck to you my Chinese friend. You will (most likely) LOVE this game. Are computer games there ported directly in English? Or are they dubbed/subtitled? Hope you get enough out of the story, you seem to be well on your way to proficiency with the english language.
Get ready to have a good f'in time on the computer. This game really is it.
By the way, play on hard difficulty level.

it is a known fact (not by you, apparently), that china is the civilized country with maybe the most censorship. if you want an example, read about the movie/film making scene in china.
besides, i don't see your point.

What? You lost me there.
Anyway, I'm from Singapore too and believe me, PC games aren't any cheaper here. For that price for a copy of HL2, it's around 1/3 of the price for any other game you can get here.
I just can't imagine the hilarity if they actually do dub the voices in Chinese.
Welcome anyway.

HL2 will probably get banned in China before you get a chance to play it :P. I heard they banned Football Manager 2005 because it listed certain places as seperate countries, rather than parts of china.

Lets hope he's thinking of germany - Is it out in germany and what did they have to change (not thinking of dialogue). I know in many games they have to change a lot for germany to accept it.
Would they change text on posters to other languages?

你好中国朋友!
I am not chinese or descend from there, but I'm learning a bit, because I visit China quite frequently.
That is cheap for a game, but I believe you could get the pirated version on any street for 5¥, less than $1. Not that I'm encouraging that, it's just a statement of fact.
Also they tend to ban games rather than censor them in China. For example C&C: Generals. However, you can pick up a copy of Generals from most pirate vendors, which operate nearly everywhere you go in the cities.
Glad to see China will be getting it soon, I advised some kid on a flight from Malaysia to Guangzhou to buy it when it was eventually released, because they were talking about computer games.

its just because alot of people are poor and dont have 50 bucks a month, thats why dad brings home alot of stuff when he goes to an azian country, "velly velly cheap" as they would say in Japan

You can get it easily on the black market. Not that I am advocating this activity, of course, but most of my chinese friends buy their dvds and games from this kind of shop, rather than the official version. They don't see anything wrong with getting the pirate version, and view the purchase of pirate games as legitimate transaction.
I suppose if the game is banned, but you can get it through this way, I couldn't really tell them they did a bad thing.

Nah, I don't think they are more strict than any other country when it comes to violence. I have seen Vice City and Doom 3 amongst others.
They ban them if they portray China in a bad way, and by bad way I mean any detail.
Generals was banned because "the notion of having terrorists operating within China's borders is ridiculous", and also they didn't like Beijing getting nuked by terrorists in the first mission.
Tomb Raider was banned because criminal gangs don't exist in China, obviously.
Some Swedish game was banned, something like IGI, can't remember exactly.
Also more recently a Nike advert due to be broadcast in China was banned, featuring a Nike basketballer using his moves to beat a Kung Fu artist.
This was considered 'A Great Blasphemy' against all of China and it's history and culture. Nike apologised for it a few days later.
China are investing lots of money into Chinese games developers to make lots of games portrayed China in a good light, and emphasising some national heros. Should be interesting to see what they produce.

yes but they have only been doing that to "westernise" in certain aspects of their country i.e. thier economy to strengthen thier country's GDP to then allow thier government to reap the harvest. they are playing us at our own game now to see if they cannt get the upper hand. they still out to take over the world.

please do correct me if i am wrong, but you are, on a public forum, denying the mere right to think of (including but not limited to) the countries of taiwan and tibet to exist. this reasoning bears disturblingly similarities to regimes i will not mention.
