View Full Version : Has anyone pre-ordered from Game ?
I went into a game shop today and pre-ordered Half-Life over the counter ( I've never pre-ordered before ). The guy gave me a receipt for Half-Life2 but I didn't pay anything.. then I left the shop.
It doesn't look like they're sending it to me, do I have to go in or what? Plus he said something about coming in a week before it's released to reserve a copy.. but by pre-ordering I thought I was?
bleh, so confused ;(

Yea, you have to go in and get it. And it shocks me, you didn't pay anything because normally they ask for at LEAST a $5 deposit. Yea, I preordered it because I truthfully dont care what version of it I get because I can just upgrade to Multiplayer some other time if I were to get the SP only.

I pre-ordered mine from Game. Totally confused as to which one i'll be getting, when i go in to collect it they'll probably ask me which version i want there and then, since i pre-ordered i get priority over the other people :). Then i'll hand over the cash.

My mum preordered "Defender of the Empire" from Game. It was the expansion pack for Tie Fighter so this happened a while ago.
So anyway, on the release day my mum goes into Game and asked for the copy she preordered. The guy said "Sorry we don't have any left, we've sold out".
My mum was rather angry. I mean, what's the point of preordering if they don't actually keep a copy aside for you?
I have no idea why you would have to go in and reserve the game as well.

Sorry to hear about your mum's experience Feath. Thats a crock of shit tho! She should write to Game about it.

I preordered at EB, I paid the full amount because I will even get priority over ppl who only put 10 bucks down, so if your going to bother getting a preorder, Just pay for the whole thing to make sure they hold you a copy. Then when the game comes in the only thing you will have to do is show them your receipt or your license.

That reminds me of the Seinfeld where Jerry makes a reservation with a car rental company and they don't have the car when he gets there...
JERRY: I don't understand. I made a reservation. Do you have my reservation?
RENTAL ASSISTANT: Yes we do. Unfortunately we ran out of cars.
JERRY: But the reservation keeps the car here, that's why you have the reservation!
RENTAL ASSISTANT: I know why we have reservations.
JERRY: I don't think you do. If you did, I would have a car. You see, you know how to take the reservation, you just don't know how to hold the reservation. And that's really the most important part of the reservation: the holding. Anybody can just take them. (http://tomsquotes.amhosting.net/sitcom/seinfeld/jerry/reserve.wav)
Game retailers should not be allowed to start pre-ordering games until they have the exact number of copies they are supposed to receive from the publisher... and then they should not be able to preorder more than a certain percent of the copies they receive.

Well, it happened about 7 years ago so I think it's a bit too late now.

I preordered at gamestop, paid half the amount (cuz thats all i had at the time), and i pay the rest when i go and pick it up. They usually call when they have it in. EB and Gamestop both do that.

i put 6 bucks down at EB
1. If they dont give me the right version, I will boycot them.
2. If they dont have my copy when i want it, I will boycott them.
3. When i recieve my copy, I will then boycott them because their prices suck.

I preordered online @ webhallen.com (swedish site). I think they ship the game one day before the realeasedate so you get the game on the releasedate or one day after. They'r pretty expensive but i don't care really. I already put away some money for HL2. :)

I pre-ordered online from the GAME UK website. They usually send the game off to you so you receive it on the release date, although sometimes I've had them turn up a couple of days early.
