How do I spawn NPCs?

I know there was a guide on spawning NPCs like combine and citizens, but I want to know how to create explosive barrels.

Does anyone know the command for this or is it not possible?

P.S. You can spawn NPCs in Hl2:DM with sv_cheats on.

As Raziel says it's a map thing, check out the taz barrel map for example.

I've searched for information about this myself and never found anything, as far as I know it is impossible to spawn objects like barrels with a console command.

although, in the jb55 mod you can spawn canisters with an ent_ command....
