DirectX 7/8

Does anyone know wether there is a way to get the game to run in DirectX 7 or DirectX 8 without getting rid of DX and putting which ever one on. basicly a cmd like a launch one so it starts up like that.

I dont get it cos the video settings have a kind of drop down menu on the hardware that doesnt work.
