Game freezes when I try to go into Options

*points at Title* Whenever I try to go into the Options menu the game freezes.

The game freezes when i try to look at the server list.

Yeah, it's really f***ed. Let me share my other problems.

It's really unstable first of all. When I go to Steam, Play Games, Right Click HL2 Deathmatch and go to Properties...

Status: Updating, (some rediculous download speed for 56k, like 1.2mb/sec)
Amount Aquired: 99%
Offline Mode: Not Ready

The Status is always updating, but nothing changes. It takes a really long time for the game to load, and when I do, like I said, it's really unstable and laggy (in my own server). And then, ya know, when I try to go to Options it freezes.

I'm real close to just uninstalling everything related to Valve and HL2. I don't even enjoy the game that much, and with all these problems with the Official releases, I'm wondering how Mods will work out.

I used the server list on steam to join a server, after that i could goto options and the server list without it freezing.
