Asian CS Server question

Does Steam automatically connect you to the servers closest to you? I live in Asia and the lowest ping I can get is 700(!!!) with regular being 1400.

Are you talking about Content-Delivery servers or what? For content delivery (updates) I think it's automatically assigned to the lowest-ping or the least-busiest server ... but for CS Source games, you should choose the server yourself from the list ... refresh and arrange by latency to get the fastest (and probably closest).
