Stuck in Anticitizen One

Near the end of ANticitizen One (I hope) after Alyx and I storm the control room, and she exposes the generator core, I'm supposed to go outside and blast it with the gravity gun. When I go outside to the courtyard, I can't find the way to get anywhere. There are two blue force fields that I can't figure out how to shut off.

You have to wait for her to open the shields first, before blasting the core with your gravity gun. You have to protect her from the combine that rushes in.

Thanks for the help, but....

She says "Watch my back" or something like that, and I wait around waiting for some action, some other squad members come in and Alyx says "Let's go" (or something like that). No enemies rush in at all. Then a door opens to get outside. So that's when I went out.

I don't know if this makes any sense. I usually just communicate with my dog...

Yes he is, that's the last part of the chapter. :p The next map is the beginning of the next chapter.

Yeah, you go ouside, she heads off to a control panel outside, and a minute or so later a dropship appears and combine rush into the courtyard. You protect Alyx while she works the console, and then the core opens after a while and you hit it with your gravity gun, causing the huge barrier to open.

Am I stupid or something? I can figure out how to "hit the core" with my gravity gun. I hear Alyx hollering at me to use my gravity gun, but it's not working. I tried both primary and secondary fir on just about everything in that little booth she's in. Am I missing something, or just being dumb again? Thanks!

I'm stuck at the end with Barney trying to get in the main building while that 'orrible suppression beam wipes out my team one by one.

Any ideas people?

Woah. O_o a lot of people struggling on these bits. I didn't find them too confusing. I was more confused in the latter sections of the game. You'll find that out soon enough though.
