Must be Lamarr, the pet *a headcrab* of dr. Kleiner

Just a wild guess, but I think they used a cat to test the teleporting system ... and ... well ... it did not reach the other side in the form it left ;-) This would explain why Barney has still "nightmares" ...

They experimented putting a cat through the teleporter when they finally had it operational, but something happened to it that Barney doesn't want to remember ;) He's worried it might happen to one of them when they go through the teleporter.

Very very simple. They used a cat as guinea pig for teleporting experiments, something went terribly wrong and the cat probably ended up... not too well.

Barney mentions it later in the game during a firefight. Made me crack up and almost die.

Yeah, if there is only ONE question answered in HL3, I want it to be about the cat. I think Alyx wishes it too :P

Go and watch 'The Fly 2' - you'll get the idea :x

Speaking of the teleport room, I spotted two nifty things.

One is a miniature teleporter. It's on the wall near the security monitors. You teleport a cactus back and forth. It's fun. (But I also found the microwave in the original HL's break room to be fun too).

Second, the picture next to the blast door leading to the actual teleporter. It's a group photo of the scientists of the old Black Mesa. The center person is scratched out... I'm guessing it's Breen. Gordon's there, looking his dashing self, but look at the gaunt man on the right, and there is a face that looks oddly out of place with out it's accompanying blue suit and breifcase..

How can anyone play/watch a sequel without seeing the originial? I'll never understand it, especially when they complain about missing information. I know you're not complaining, but you should really play the first one, its a classic.

Like already stated, in The Fly, they try to teleport some sort of baboon monkey, but the atoms didn't match up right or something, so what they were left with was a half-alive pile of bloody baboon jello.

During one of the City 17 maps, Barney says, "Hey, did you just hear a cat meow?" "The damn thing haunts me!" or something of the sort.

I thought maybe Barney was just trying to mess with Alyx.

bet itll be explained in hl3, cause barney mentions it again later on in the game

I doubt it'll be explained. The humor is in that you don't know what happened, so you are left to assume the worst.

Kind of reminds me of the seashell running gag in Demolition Man (movie).

haha yeah I love how alyx asks when she steps into the teleporter "Sooo what was that about the cat" and *everyone* completely ignores her! =) priceless..

Actually, I think that guy is supposed to be the anal-looking scientist model from Half Life.
