I HAD the game all working nicely until yesterday lunch time.. I wanted a quick game durng my break but..0h no..server was busy so- F*KK off! I then tried to play "offline" I took out my network lan cable and restarted, but of course it would'nt work, I kept tryin to connect for an hour but nothing, I thought maybe my steam itself was corrupted so, stupid me..I unistalled it..I did'nt know it would uninstall the whole GAME...damn!!!!!:frown:

Now Im tryin to get my game back..but steam just wont connect..I tried at 5am this morning and firstly..it takes FOREVER to bring up a dialgoue box saying "updating" then about 3 mins later it says "server too busy" or something..I been tryin it almost constantly since yesterday..is it really that bogged down still?
When people are already playin the game, are they still considered logged into steam therefore they occupy that user slot..so others cant get in?

I tried getting into the Steam Powered user forums but its been "server too busy'" since yesterday too although I had no troubles connecting or playing before then, even on opening day..what the heck is going on:frown:

it seems after I unplugged my lan cable thats when things went horribly wrong, would that screw it up so badly? I re-installed Steam 3 or 4 times already from scratch, even deleted it in the registry

You know just 2 days ago I thought steam was a great idea, I got the game in a matter of hours, got online and paid for it, was playing it the day it came out. I thought the people who said it did'nt work were crazy and whiners..till it happened to me, oh well...

I have same problem. Installed it, it worked fine.
Then I reinstalled it after lots of trouble. And now I get the "The Steam server are currently busy ... " error. :s
Hope they will fix it very soon.

how come you had to re-install it? I did it on mine accidentally, I went into Add/remove programs and selected Steam..I did'nt know it was removing HL2 as well...now Im really screwed..I've almost had enough...

Did you try deleting 'ClientRegistry.blob' and loading steam again?
That has worked for me in the past, when I could not log in.

Thanks, yea I did try it several times, I noticed as soon as I start steam again having done this, it immediately creates another blob file, is that normal?

Yea it should create another ClientRegistry.blob, what about moving platform.gcf and loading steam again.

I had this problem on the day of release, unfortunately deleting those files did not work for me and I just had to keep trying.

I think the problem was the Steam installer I got from their site is'nt working, I got it from a different place: http://home.covad.net/~k25125/SteamyThings/Steam_Startup_Connection_Problem_FAQ.htm

THIS ONE WORKS (at least for me so far!) try it and let me know

Ok, works fine.
Thx
How come not everyone is having the same problem with the new steam installer?
