ok and again... i reinterate...
dont bother saying howabout this howabout that...
games like pitfall and mario and metroid etc.... cannot be made as a mod for hl2 without permission from the companies who owns the intellectual property...
Look marvel is sueing ncsoft because it was too easy to create heroes on CoH that looks to much like and the use of the names of marvels property...
Besides, how do you guys know how easy it will be?
These mods you guys keep talking about...RPG game mods and such, like honestly, do you have any idea what you're talking about?
Why re-make an RPG on Source? Not to mention how hard it would be. (not implying Metroid would be an RPG)
These mods don't just make themselves...anyone can "think" of an idea, especially something like a game which already exists, doing it is another.
ps: I hope someone makes a goldeneye mod, regardless :(

lol it's funny to see bitches affraid of being sued ! hehehe ! come on pussy ! Make your mod about Mario Bros or Metroid or Pinochio and put your web page on many offshore servers and spread the files with bittorrent ! anyway it is illegal to SELL a mod of something under copyright but not to create it and give it free !

nope it doesnt matter.. if you sell it or not...
you cant make mods based on intellectual property of other companies without permission..
Most eulas that is tied to map editors etc... expressly states that

If you give it for free then nobody will sue you.. i've been using pirated Windows since ever and Microsoft don't give's a shit about me because they are too busy with people that SELL pirated copies ! There is a team that is re-programming Super-Metroid (for SNES) but this time it is created for Windows without an emulator.. a stand-alone game in C++ and since the many years they are doing this nobody ever piss them off !

There was a mod for Battlefield 1942 based on StarCraft. Blizzard stopped them. A company owns all intellectual rights to a game. If they don't want it remade, it won't be. Sorry. Surprisingly though, Bungie didn't care when a Halo mod was made for Battlefield 1942. Even though they were releasing Halo on PC around that time.

You can get sued if you distribute the mod, you don't even have to sell it. If you publicize it in any way your in danger of getting sued.

Infraction of an Intellectual Property does not come from you making a profit, but from taking it away from the rightful owners.
For instance, if I made a mod of Metroid in Source, people who own Half Life 2 already might be less interested in buying the new Metroid Prime game for the cube. This takes away from profits for Nintendo, and therefore they have the right to make it go away.
Either way, that's only the justification. The legality of it is that you are creating an original work that is considerably derivative of a published work in existance. They have every right to tell you that you can't, because it belongs to them, and more importantly, it was their creation.

Daikatana Source! It would suck but at least it would look good.
Seriously: I would like to see the specialists and science and industry remade into source.
