Alright, i'm a total CS newbie, and i don't mind admitting that i really suck at it, so.....are there any newbie servers out there that i can have a nice game without getting my butt handed too me each and every time. At least until i develop some form of hand eye co-ordination that allows me to actually hit what i'm aiming at.

check your mouse sensitivity
also, might try playing against bots/one player and look over the maps
it is pretty competetive online, although i'm sure there are newbie servers, some might have newbie in the server title(so do a search)
the best players get in a rhythm, letting their instincts take control after dreaming about the maps for many nights..
i'm not bad myself for an oldtimer(31), but am taking a hiatus due to having a phone modem(although i found out it CAN be done, but at a disadvantage at the most important moments.. when to people try to acquire each other.. the one with the lower ping gets a slight jump, but can still miss!)

I find that on Newbie servers, older players tend to join them for some easy kills, and then the skill level in the game rises until it's just a normal server..
It's probably best to just play in random servers against people who are better than you, and that should hone your skills.
If you play against other crap players, you won't adapt to a better skill level..
...Or something! ;)

You should try our resident Half-life servers, because that's where we practice, and it's all a bit of fun. None of it gets real serious, and I would be happy to teach you a few camping spots if you see me around on them.
Afterall, we're all newbies at some point. :)

Thanks guys.
i might jump on now and see how i go, i've been just running around the maps by myself and playing with the weapons to see which ones i like.
And i had a few games on random servers (and got raped) but i'm getting there.
So watch out, there's cannon fodder coming your way. :P

I like guys like you, have_blue. You make my e-ego grow when I'm playing cs:s.
What makes my e-ego shrink is when someone who has the username "CS N00B" owns me. :(

I would like to see a graduate system implemented where you can search for certain games where only Level 1 or Level 10 players are playing. You're player level is determined by how many multiplayer frags that your Steam account user has. I don't know just thinking out loud...

well, that'd work for for people who actually can frag. :P thats the bit i'm having trouble with.

there used to be newbie servers where you would get booted if you were too good... needless i was shocked when i got booted out of one once..!!
but that must've been about 3 years ago or more... :S have improved a little since then! (probably wud've been better to spend all that time on something more productive but hey..!)

I'm a decided new('_')bie playing CS:S but I'm happily surprised at how polite and good-humored all the really good players are. I always auto assign--and I almost always get blasted quickly, but I've managed to blast my share as well. I say "Thanks!" to the "pro" CS:S players for letting a new('_')bie join their servers while learning to play the game....Besides, I'll be better after I play through HFL2 on the highest difficulty level...(OK, OK, at least I HOPE SO...)lol

I turned my back towards CS about 1 1/2 years ago, too many kids talking shit, too much hacking, one thing was missing: fun. I played ET for a while and just recently thought I might aswell test CS:S (having it before HL2 of course). I was really impressed, nice ppl all around. Although I got kicked from a few servers. One of those incidents was fun: I joined the server (was a clan server) and there was one guy having a lot of kills and only 1 death. I shot him three rounds in a row and he started accusing me of cheating (b/c I have no rank apparently), then I got kicked. lol. Sooo funny.
But for all "n00bZ0rZ": join the halflife2.net servers. Polite and competitive, best mixture. Mature audience, no shit, just endless hours of fun. The [Halflife2.net|Clan] ppl are a little above average though but still polite when they drop you :)
Anyway, see y'all online.

hehe, i've had this happen to me too.. one time playing Desert Combat, i had the round of my life. I mean, i literally fragged something like 15 people without dying. In fact I hadn't been fragged to that point in the game, and i watched them chatting about how i'm totally cheating. I tried to convince them otherwise, that it was the round of my life, but they just didn't buy it. :sniper:

Hi
I'm a newbie aswel, only started playing CS:S recently and finding my way abit better now, meaning i killed someone, once! lol ;), I have a few questions.
1.Is it be possible to pick up objects, like in half life2? I've read about people moving filling cabinets infront of doors but i can't move them. That would be so much better. Throwing stuff to cause a distraction, holding a filling cab as a shield, or a dead enemy as a shield :) I hope this is implimented either officially or a mod.
2. Bots? I've read that bots are in the game but still locked. I guess bots are a great way to practice and learn the maps and weapons. any news on when bots will be released?
3. I did play cs1.6 for about 3 goes, but i could never recognise who i was shooting. Now in CS:S with only 1 skin per teams it's alot better. will it stay like this or with they introduce different looking players skins to confuse me again?
4. Guides? Where is there a good newbie guide for CS:S? I havnt a clue about which guns are best etc. Do bullets and guns carry over to the next game etc?
5. Whats in the pipeline for CS:S? What will be in updates?
6. Whats the best CS:S website?
Cheers for the help.
We was all noobs one day.
markoasis is my name on CS:S, add me and either kill a noob or help me out ;)

Yo and welcome to my world lol :
1. It isnt possible to actaully pick up objects but if you have a powerful enough gun such as the m249 or a few frags then you can shoot things such as filing cabnets in front of doors yes.
2. I have heard the rumour about these bots but never found any.
3. CS 1.6 was great, spent 3 years roughly of my life on it lol but yes i agree with a previous post about that hackers and children, really annoying.
4. Im not too sure about the guides, its best to learn your own tactics and stuff. well i think so anyway.
5. There is an update being released in December which will be fixing a few bugs etc and hopefully it will also include a few new maps or remakes of cs 1.6 ones.
6. The best CSS website, hmmmmm.... not too sure about that i know a few.
As for adding you to friends i probably will, could do with a few more people that actually play lol

What you mean, actually play??
I don't get on very often, (g/f & daughter) i'm mostly on late at night after 10 and not every night.
Would be nice to have a friend as i know no-one at the mo. that sounds so sad doesn't it. I added you to me msn, hope that's ok. you can teach me more about CS:S. chat soon.
Maybe see you online soon?

About the bots...
I've happened upon a server which was populated by bots on the terrorist team, and humans on the CTs.
They're pretty easy to beat! They vary in difficulty, though. There's usually one more difficult bot on a team.

Then you played on a warez'ed server. I've played on one once. And I agree about the stupidity of them. It was literally headshot-hour :) Anyway, the bots aren't unlocked because they are still in a bad AI shape or so I would think. That would make sense by VALVe

Ahh, I see.
It was pretty surreal. They all had names like Todd, Matt, Nick.. latency 0.
Then I saw "BOT".

CS is a competitive sport of sorts. Try playing something more lowbrow. The Specialists comes to mind. A game which isn't round based so you get more time playing then waiting. Then once you consider yourself a force to be reckoned with try CS

We try to keep our server full of noobs for right now...I've never played a CS game before and I get tired of the comments from the "pros" real quick. I do lock up my server from time to time if we get enough noobs to play. This way we can learn from each other and you don't get the negative comments.
You're welcome to hit me up on msn anytime for the IP and pass. Ceisenhart@msn.com
