stuck in sewer area

I am stuck in the sewer area toward the begining of the game. I am in a pit with water and think I need to enter the pipe pictured but am unable to reach it.

Advice?

you need to climb up the ladder and jump on the pipe to get up on the ledge. then walk around and go into the next area where theres a load of pipes and you need ot jump on them and turn a valve which makes the water rise... then u go back and can swim into that hole!
