Validation Question

Well I have an ATI voucher and unlocked HL2 with that CD key but when i started pre loading it doesn`t work cuz my college connection sux. Anyways, I decided to go out and get retail anyways. I`m wondering if when I put the retail in if its gonna be all set or if I`m gonna have to use the CD key that comes with that. Also, in that case am I gonna be ok since I already unlocked HL2 technically with another CD key if not?

I'm sure when you install the game, it'll either install to Steam from the CD, or install Steam and then the GCF.
