Counter-strike: Source Clan starting up.

Hey all. Dekstar here. Now, cut the short talk, let's get down to business.

Playing a coutner-strike: Source game the other day on our own server, I was approached by one '[PCGF]Irishbloke'. After much playing and beating on both sides, he mentioned I was quite a good player, and asked me if my clan wanted to have a match.
Now, I was wearing the [Halflife2.net] Tag, and said it wasn't a clan name. But I thought it would be cool to have a Halflife2.net clan. We could then have our debut match with the PCGF (PC Gamer Forum) clan.
So, I know a few people who are going to apply for this already (Word has gotten round our server :)).

So, Rules of application:
You must include in your application:
Your name
Your your gaming name (Handle, if you will)
Your age (Optional)
Your skills (Advantages and disadvantages)
A screenshot or two of some good server score ratios (Preferably 2:1, but not needed like that - Preferably first though.)
A small list of the maps you are good on, and maps you aren't good on.

That should be about it.

The maximum clan size in a match will be 8, but more than that can join as we need strengths for each map (If we can). So even if you are in our clan, you may not be having a match unless there's a map you are good on in the server rotation.

At the moment, I am in the clan, but I will probably never have a match due to my Erratic playing behaviour (I am good sometimes, but other times I just suck - I'm rather random like that).

So, as more poeple join, it'll be more of a community effort to find players.

Oh yeah, the gaming tag will be (For matches) [Halflife2.net|clan] - Hopefully.

CS_Office - My favourite level, and one I know best for both sides.
De_Aztec - Another good level, but only if I'm CT and own a sniper rifle
De_Dust - I have played this level most (Since the beta) and do well on both sides (CT is what I'm best at though since the scout is cheaper)

Maps I am bad at:
De_Dust 2 - Possibly my worst level. I just suck at it.
De_Cbble - I like this level, but I'm not good at it.
Cs_Havana - I have good tactics for this level, but I generally suck :)
The others I'm pretty well average on.

I can't actually say that I'm good at that map and suck at another, because some days I'm really hitting that headshot, and other days I can't even hit an AFK'er :) I consider myself fairly well known with all the maps.

I haven't got any screenshots ATM, but I guess some of you have seen me on the halflife2.net server already.

On good days I may get a ratio of 4:1, 5:1 and the occational 10:1 ratio (maybe a few times a week :P )
On average days my final ratio is usually around 2:1, 1,5:1
On a bad day I end up with a lot more deaths than kills. Between 1:1,5, 1:4 :)

Shotguns: what guns? crap basically

SMG: preferred if terrorist, generally good

Rifles:

non-sniper: will only use the m4/ak or bullpup/terrorist equivilant, generally stay away from the zoom in non-snipers though

sniper: can awp/auto but won't normally, i can play well with a scout on servers with lots of players and good positions, but due to my impatience i often tend to run around, which isn't good for scouting

machine guns: no

nades: maybe in office

general: i like to rush a lot, and i don't like staying in one place for ages, this can lead to many kills or very few :P

I also find that i tend to get better if i start off badly, whilst good starts are usually maintained rather then dropped.

I rock the deagle anywhere, especially in the first few rounds, but then tend to switch to m4 or galil, I am quite good with an autosnipe, preferably the sig. Back in CS1.6 I almost always played with smg's, but have lost the knack. So it's either sig 552, m4, ak, or galil. (in no particular order) I am quite a good shot with a pistol (in game and in real life.) and communicate well (especially with my new Sennheiser PC150)

That about sums it up. I'm online a lot, and would play on the hl2.net leetnet servers, but no one is on them. We should have organized playtimes...

Bullseye: cs:s is far less dependent on cpu speed, you get such low fps because your video card is most likely old/slow/shat. Pick up a new video card and you'll be fine! (you can play with the big boys!)

thats not true.. me and my brother both have silver package but my brother has the same videocard as me.. his CPU speed is 2.8 ghz and mine is 1.6 ghz... he runs the game at a constant of 40fps to 60 fps... i only get about 9 to 10 fps

Yeah. CS:S is very CPU-dependant. Concentrate on a somewhat fast CPU/ram before upgrading the videocard. A new videcard will of course make the game look a lot nicer.

I'm saying this mainly because even with my 1.5Mb adsl I get around 150-200ms ping off uk servers. You just can't play your best when you're that far behind. Plus if the clan ever met IRL it would be a lot harder.

Skills: I tend to do better the less I try, its odd, I also get really frustrated when shots dont reg or I get killed from long distances by a guy spraying through a wall, so try to ignore the rage. :P
As long as I have a relatively good start, I play well for the whole map. Im a good team player, and can sometimes pull out spurts of skill when desperatly needed. Managing to gun down the entire CT team with a shotgun one at a time on Havana after all the Ts other than I were dead for instance. God how we love camping hostage rescue points behind pillars...

I am capable of getting kills with nearly all of the guns, and what I choose depends on what Im doing well with at the time. I was a great scouter in 1.6, but I seem to fire through the head now, rather than hitting it and killing them. I can still scout just about though.

Oh yea, and I got Shotgun and P90 mad.... :D

Anyone willing to film the match using FRAPS? Just thinking since it would indeed be a good thing to do. Someone could edit and produce highlights and so on.

I would love to be the console, and would happily spectate, filming all the action, and upload it to my FTP server so people can edit it after.

Nice I'll be handling those applications later. We already have a clan of 15 and some of the members are saying "split it up into different regiments for clans and then switch per clan match". This means if the idea goes through, we'll eventually have:
An alpha team of 8 players. These are the players that are to be totally honest, the best of the best. And as such, have priority in clan matches.
A Bravo Team made up of "backups". If one of the alpha team can't make a clan match, then a bravo will stand in.

Bravo's will obivously play every other match, and every... Month (Even week!) or so, we will change the teams around and update them. This meaning, the more you practice and play, the higher section you get into. This will also be extremely fair, I think, as it means that splitting the teams (Roughly 8 per squad) will give everyone an equal chance to play, instead of just choosing who's best, as people who are good on all maps will obviously be chosen first.

I'm also making a cheap site, including a clan forum. So updates on that will be later :).

Clan update: The great Irish Bloke yesterday sent me some cool new update info on our upcoming debut match! The PCGF clan has actually rented an 8vs8 server that we can play on, which you can thank the honourable 'Woodsie' for that. Give him a clap!

More details to come soon, including site update and URL info, maybe even some mor clan info. Wooo!

Just letting applicants know you need to supply a Country name you are in. This is because once we get enough US players, we will be splitting the clan to allow for easier server handling.

Oh hey, I've found out how to record a demo. Ain't that great. now all you have no excuse to NOT record it.

To start recording, open your console, and type "record [Demo name].dem" without the ['s and ]'s around the name, and without the "'s...

Then, to stop recording when the match is over, type "stop" or "stopdemo" into the console, again without the "'s.

To play back the demo (To make sure you got it all) type:
"playdemo [demoname]" into the console, without ['s and ]'s and "'s...

That should be it. Now I want you all to send me these demos either by email (razorback_monkeys@hotmail.com), or upload it to www.yousendit.com or something...

The PCG Forums are incredibly busy and active - Which is a good thing. They have posted about 7 pages since I last checked, and it took me ages to find what I wanted.

Anyway, the maplist, as stated, will be:
de_Dust
cs_Havana
cs_Office

The rounds will most likely be played like this:

3 maps. 30 minutes on each, with 15 minutes halves when we swap teams. That way there is pressure to kill quickly if you are behind in order to catch up rounds. Total rounds wins.

With one knife round at the start of each level to decide who starts on what team. Now, we may not be so good at knife rounds, but this is how it will most likely be played, but not certain.

Also, I'll give a brief description of each of the PCGF players in the final match listings, like they did with us :P,

My specs pretty good (AMD64 3400+ - X800XT - 1GB memory) and normally everything runs fine with all the settings on max. It still runs okay with the demo recording but there is a noticeable difference, so I might lower some settings a bit and see what happens.

Or maybe I'm just reddying an excuse in case I don't kick ass :)

Got a demo of that infamous knifing session on Pixartists server from earlier. The practice went well and we should win the knife round unless something drastic happens.

We got a good few tactics done too, and I managed to pair a few up with each other, based on their basic skills with eny one particular weapon, which should be fun. Here's the list so far:
Septih
Pixartist
Roper
Ripper
F1r3b4ll
OJS
Immortal
ApHeX

Red team will stick together. Ripper and ApHeX were together from the start, and are the main sniping team, mixed with a few close rangers for basic cover. The two teams won't stay apart during matches, but will stick to their primary team when given orders from each other. For instance:

Team: T's (Attacking)

Thanks to Cs-Nation for this great tactical map, and Our excellent forrager Koffern for finding it.

Blue:Now, as you can see, the blue team could converge upon Insertion point 2 (The underpass). there should always be at least one player watching the back of the underpass, who reports to any T's, enemies that have broken through insertion point 1 (Red's overpass rush).

Also, Blue team should have at most 2 snipers rushing the underpass at any one time, as close range combatants are needed for any M4 users that happen to be at the sniper post overlooking the underpass (Marked by a grey Cross).

Reds: Read team should be the overpass rushers, as the team consists of pistol/medium range combatants. Blue team should split into two sections if splitting off to rush (Marked by the two blue arrows around the blue circle at point 1), and should have at least 1 person looking behind to check for any "stalkers".

If both plans work, both teams should converge at point C (Marked by the two circles), and asses each possible direction to head in. Never solely rush B, as it's too predictable.

Also, by now, you should all know how to plant the bomb (As shown in the match we had earlier, thanks to pixartist) at A, so no trouble there.

Good Game. A few pointers though

WCG + CPL -> Are round based tournaments, previously 13 round games i.e one team has to win 13 rounds to win the game, and the match has two halves. ct -> 12 rounds and t -> 12 rounds.

Official Maps for matching
-> De_dust2
-> de_inferno
-> de_nuke
-> de_train
-> de_clan1_mill
-> de_aztec
-> de_cbble

the first 4 being the most popular ones....

Tactics -(Codenames)-
If i was not lazy i could probably get a top down map and point out the codenames, but yes im lazy.

-> DD2 (De Dust 2)
Its usually the terror that needs tactics, when playing as ct the main aim is to "guard" and there are a few strategies in guarding as well but not really complicated basically there has to be 3 people Outer and 2 people Inner.

Terrors -> 3 - 2 Outer assault, in this case 3 people go from alley, and two people go from stair. The stair people move slow and ducked so that you dont get plucked of from the person watching mid, the alley people move fast since they have a larger distance to cover.

*Note if you do not know the codenames i might be able to post a map and apply the codenames later on, all i can tell you right now is Outer is the bombsite right next to the ct base and inner is the bombsite further away.

Terrors -> Around the world (Also known as Marathon, 2.4 k Run)
This is a very complicated tactic and is usually used in the pistol round to completaly bewilder the ct. Basically it works like this, the terrors have to rush all the way. Rush from stair jump down to mid to lower tunnel to upper tunnel, make some noise go out, go back to terror base keep on rushing all the way to alley and target the outer bombsite. I.E doing a complete circle and then falling back to outer. What this does is, the person guarding mid will easily see you guys jumping down into tunnel, implying that you guys are rushing for the inner bombsite, all the ct's rush to the inner bombsite and wait, by the time they realise you have taken a whole u turn and are targetting outer, the terrors would probably already be there.

Terrors -> 3 - 2 Inner Assault
Simple tactic, 3 people go from upper tunnel to inner, first person throws fb. 2 People go from mid to inner (becareful of outer snipers). This should easily wipe out inner with 1 or none casualties.

Terrors -> Decoy tactics
A good decoy tactic is one that does not have any casualties. One such tactic is when, the terrors rush alley and take out the person guarding the alley and then fall back to inner bombsite through terror base, (might encounter some ct's on the way, easy free frags, (5 v 1) since they might want to try to backstab alley).

3 Outer -> 1 Alley - > 2 Stair
2 Inner -> 1 Outside door - > one at mid

CT - Pistol round, keep 4 at inner and 1 at outer, simply because when you have 5 vested glocking terrors rushing at you, there isnt much 1 or 2 cts can do in the first round, therefore the person at outer has to be skillful enough to report before he dies (mic).

Firstly extract the files and copy them into your Counter strike source folder, e.g.

C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\steamusername\counter-strike source\cstrike

Then run CSS, open the console and type playdemo 'name'.

e.g. playdemo clanmatch_2.dem

Alpha team is comprised of everyone who was playing in our debut clan match. I haven't made a hardcopy list yet, but I will do ASAP. Everyone else is split into Bravo team, which at the moment has more than 8 players. Thus should be split.

We are doing that. Currently, however, we only have one or two American clan members (One being Daegon). We need more american applicants before we make an american section, and I think Daegon will be the head of that clan, as he was the first in that section.

As for the clan being full, I'll look into that now. I am compiling a list of all clan members as we speak.

De_dust -> Preety decent at it, although its a very slow map. Backstabs galore :naughty:

De_aztec -> in css is a bit dark for my lcd, but i was still able to be a powerful sniper.
Cs_office -> Bright map, good hiding spots, lots of tactical opportunity in this map.

De_Cbble - I like the map, but i totally suck at it.


*On a side note, there are quite a few members in this board that are based in Singapore (where i am), i could ask them to come up front and try to join the clan if its possible and mabe start a division of hl2.net in singapore. Its the gaming hub of asia :smoking: and soon one of the potential members will have a server.

Yeah as Sepih said, these are A2 exams and determin whether I go to a good university or a shity polytech course. I cant ignor them for a CS game i'm affraid. I shouldnt even be on the forums to be honest. Btw yeah... I didnt give a rats arse about GCSE mocks or otherwise anyway. I needed only C's in those and I more than got that. But these are things not to be taken so lightly.. as I found out last year when I pretty much failed my AS levels.

I'm quite happy with having to reaply and everything and I understand its not like I am gona get back in no questions asked or anything. But its not like I've stoped my involvement just to piss you guys off. Its because I am very busy.

May i first congratulate you guys on maintaining the most fun server i've been on since the cs:s beta's? :)
secondly; i was wondering if you are still looking for a backup-player for the clan? i can't play very often early in the evening (since i play volleyball pretty intensively 2x a week + saturday), but i'd like to get in on some trainings to get a bit better.
I play almost every day for a few hours, but mostly later in the evening/night
if there are still spots available, i'll make some screenies of scores and post some additional information :)

First off. If you, or any others hadn't noticed:
THE CLAN IS CURRENTLY FULL

But, we'll add you to this increasingly.... increasing list, and notify you when there's a space free. Then it'll be first come first serve on the slot. Players who generally are online the most will get that vital spot.

erm i do pretty well i just minimized on a score of 35 - 13, got 46-13 the otherday most days though its a 2 or 3 : 1 ratio

Cons=
- skill comes with ups and downs
- sometimes clumsy flashthrower (sometimes throw em against a doorway or hostage ;))
- can't handle snipers-rifles too well (xcept scout)
- not game-related= i play volleyball semi-pro, so can't play monday/thursday (from 18.00 gmt until 23.30 gmt) and on saturday-evening, hope thats not a too bigga problem...

Well Duh. The AWP sucks skill from your very life essence every time you pick one up. I suggest never to touch an AWP again, and just focus on the scout skills.

You're looking pretty good Barre. We'll see. YaWn has posted on our internal forums (He's always one step ahead, the sneaky bugger ;)).

Yeah but I hate making decisions on my own, and I think some of the clan are happy with just Alpha and Bravo.
