I was wondering how you can make video clips from games.
Do you need a special software or is it just like taking a screenshot?

depends what game. some games you can just type /record <name> in the consle ( <name> being the desired filename) and it will automatically record everything onscreen untill you type /stop . this is the case with Halflife, anyway.

some games dont have a built in record function though, so you may have to get some software. unfortunately i dont know of any...

Apparantly Source will/might have a special kind of demo recording in it, letting you record a demo as normal, and then go back and edit the demo in realtime, changing the position of the camera for example, to get a better shot of something that happened. Then it'll spit it out to mpeg or frames and you can put it together in another app.
