"Original Air Blue Gown" by the Mountain Goats through AKG k271 headphones. The volume is just a kicked back to just a bit less than full-blast. Eyes closed, eyes closed. Sitting on the floor with my head against the wall. It opens with an acoustic guitar riff, followed by a violin on each side, murmuring in the background.

Rain all burned away
The horseflies are an irridescent green
Plums boiled down to pulp
Drying on a screen
The sibilants are quite hot and hurt my ears; I imagine the vocals emerging from dry, cracked lips

Bright red air inside the house here
I can barely draw breath
The violins are at a simple drone at this point, creating a wondrously oppressive atmosphere. It's physically difficult for me to breathe; the air feels thick and heavy on my chest.
Dark blue shapes pop behind my eyelids
The violin on the left takes a breath and then cries out before each violin silences itself in preparation for impending triumph:
I am not afraid of death.

They pick up again and build up to a crescendo as the narrator (and indeed, myself) forge a path through the haze to find themselves overcome with awe:

The violins fall back and bury themselves into my chest, I feel myself sinking down with them:

The violin on the right starts this shriek after the word "clearing" that just never really dies down; the notes trickle and float down like desperation prayers

I have to admit I was quite disappointed at first with his latest album. I tend to prefer his predominantly more electronic excursions. But now, as is typical, it's beginning to grow on me. It's palette is definitely more accessible, but it's frantic and spastic enough to bear his signature markings. The textures and melodies are colorful and warm, even when it gets gritty. The bass solo meanderings don't do much for me and there's still tracks I skip. But it coincides with me also appreciating Music Is Rotted... a lot more these days as well.
