I love Maynard James Keenan, but Chino Moreno (Deftones) or PJ Harvey are brilliant as well. Very haunting. :)

Singers who've already been mentioned - Cedric (Mars Volta), Chino (Deftones), Maynard (Tool, APC), Chris (Soundgarden, Audioslave)

Also - Matthew Bellamy (Muse), Brandon Boyd (Incubus), Serg Tankian (System Of A Down), Tom Yhorke (Radiohead).

Post more when I think of them... sorry about any spelling mistakes, they all have CRAPPY NAMES.

Cedric and Matt B are amazing, yeah. Beth Gibbons is probably my favorite singer ever. Check out "Out of Season". So haunting and beautiful.

Two of the most unique voices in Metal would have to be Rob Zombie, or Ozzy Osborne. Both are quite unique and unmatched.

I know Ozzy is not coming up with new material, but Zombie may still come out with a new album some time down the road.

As for today, I'm not sure who currently has the best voice in a band toady (other than those that have already been mentioned). I would say that Amy Lee from Evanesence is the most fresh of the vocalists out there. Other then that, I don't think I could choose.

Maynard James Keenan and Chris Cornell. I like Thom Yorke, but on the more recent Radiohead albums he pronounces consonants even less than before. His voice fits really well with the music, though, and I love Radiohead.

Richard Patrick from Filter, I like how he can do a calm song like "Take a Picture" to something a bit more hard like "Hey Man Nice Shot", also he doesn't pull a Zeppelin by not sounding anything like the records, you get the same performance on stage as you do from the CD which is nice.

Thom Yorke from Radiohead and Jeff Mangum from Neutral Milk Hotel. These guys may not have the most technically perfect singing voices, but both display incredible emotion. I mean, there are a million perfect voices out there, but these two can sing even the most rediculous shit like they absolutely mean it, which is more difficult, and impressive, in my book.

Maynard James Keenan for SURE, mainly for his tool stuff but also his APC vocals aren't half bad :P still, the songs Undertow, Third Eye, Stinkfist, Hooker With a Penis... amazing.

Trent Reznor too, though mainly that's here because I'm a NIN fanatic.

James LaBrie is bloody awful. I can't stand his voice, it's so...whiny. I think Rob Halford from Judas Priest can still hold his own today, although he's probably lost it somewhat from the early days.

I like unique male vocalists, and my favourites are:
Mike Patton
Matt Bellamy
Thom Yorke
W. Axl Rose
Chris Cornell

But yes to go back to the actual subject, to me Matt Bellamy from MUSE is the best and is on another level of vocal talent from any other rock or metal group around today.

Dave Mathews - I just like his strange sound
Chino Moreno - (probably my favorite singer)
Chris Cornell - (has a very unique rock sound)
Serj Tankian/Daron Malakian - (the duette is unstoppable, they sing out of tune of each other but sound so synchronized its very weird, plus i think they have the coolest quirks and growls in metal :) )

Corey Taylor - Slipknot/Stone Sour. Anyone who thinks he doesn't have a good voice should listen to Bother or Vermillion pt.2.

Maynard - Tool/APC. OMG this guy is a genius

Amy Lee - Evanescence. Great voice, and she's hot!

u people freak me out... noone has mentioned Chester Bennington from Linkin Park.. hes got amazing voice... and to be honest Serj Tankian has got horrible singing voice... no offence, i actually luv s.o.a.d... its just, that he's not really "singing guy"... he's more like "screaming and making weird noises guy"... if u heard "f**k the system" u'll udnerstand wat i mean by WEIRD NOSES...

P.S. luv Kurt Cobain's voice.. it's unique.. well, its already been said...
