and this is not bs,i swear down on everything i know,these ati reps knew a lot about the realease,but they also said,ANYTHING could happen between now and then,they said lets just hope it all goes smooth because they are also awaiting it to come out so they can promote the x800 xt harder than before.


i also got a firegl neck band,its there new card coming out,sounds sweet to be honest.

And the plan was for many different versions of HL2. Since then Vivendi came into play and there is only the standard & collectors edition. Since when? Most of the games I know take 2 weeks from gold announce to come out. Doom 3 was 3 cds and it took about that look. Hl2 should be about 3-4 cds and I would think it would take about 2 weeks as well. 5 weeks for manufacturing and shipping is laughable. If any publisher takes that long, find a new one. :)

I was talking to a guy who knows this other guy, who knows two guys, one of them has a dog who's walking alongside some other dog who was barking that he knows the dog who lives next door to Gabe Newell, and that dog barked that Gabe himself was at home ironing out bugs, so it could'nt be ready for September 30th, because with the amount of bugs in the game and at the rate they were going, it would take exactly 29 days, 2 hours, 12 minutes and 5 seconds. So this could mean that the game could slip to november or something, I guess. Some of you may be wondering why we're declaring Aug. 10 as National Madden Vacation Day. That's because the game officially ships from our distibution center on the 9th. Some of the big retail chains or merchants in larger markets will have the game as early as Aug. 10th. The official in store date is still Aug. 12th, as that is the day that Madden NFL 2005 will be in stores everywhere across the U.S.

sorry dude games are always released on tuesdays. look at doom 3. the date they gave was aug 5, the game was released aug 3. so when hl2 is released on the 28th, make sure you wait till the 30th. :rolling:

I just don't see how this is possible. Valve said that they are aiming to get an RC to Vivendi on the 15th. It takes some time for Vivendi to approve the RC to go gold. The reproduction and distribution takes about 3 weeks. Even if HL2 went gold today (can't because CS:S beta continues), the end of September is about 3 weeks away so even that would be pushing it. I say October is the earliest we can possibly see it.

I'm sorry, but logistically I don't think it'll happen. I hope so, though.
They could easily get the number of CDs printed in that time frame. As for advertising, do you really think they need it? All they would have to do is quietly release a simple press release to a few of the larger websites saying, "Half-Life 2 has gone gold and will be available for purchase on such-and-such a day" and they'll break a million copies sold in the first week, easily. If there's one thing Valve doesn't have to worry about it's exposure.

I asked my brother yesterday when he thought the game would come out, and he said he wasn't sure. Then he asked me when I thought it was coming and I said hopefully by October. So we settled on that month, and 5 being my favorite number I decided that the game is coming out on October 5. So I asked my brother who went through a similar process overnight and he came up with the date of October 45, since 45 is his favorite number. No no, I haven't gone crazy. The moral to the tale is that you shouldn't make threads on a release date that isn't official, 'cause noone knows of the date except Valve and VU.

Though I do hope beyond mere hope that HL2 will come out at the end of this month, I still wonder if the fact that HL Source isn't anywhere near completion, (from what I have heard anyways,) that a Nov. release of HL2 isn't more likely. Perhaps they are waiting for HL Source to be finished so they can package a fully tested version along with HL2 for the Collector's Edition, and the "basic version" might be held back so it and the Collector's edition can be released at the same time? I appologise if this has been addressed before.

I didn't think that they would spend a whole lot of time on HL:S, just porting it to the source engine but not upgrading textures or models like in CS:S. Once the bugs are mostly removed from the Source engine through the CS:S beta, I'm sure they will be ready for release.

I think you'll find that HL:Source was done a while ago. They just ran a conversion pass on the maps, did some very quick and dirty QA, and called it a day.

No new textures (just 32-bit versions of the originals), no new maps, no new models.

What I said was in jest of vivendi and their policy on meeting deadlines as being... laughable. I agree, that given the current situation, the game should be out soon, but given their previous history, if they say it will be out by a certain time, then it undoubtably means that it will NOT be out by that time. By their association, I really mean both companies. I concede that the majority of dates given have been from valve, but vivendi's dates (christmas of last year comes to mind) are also largely false, albeit more realistic than valve.

i'm thinking hl2 will ship early-mid october. Sept 30th is possible though if the game goes gold within the next several days. Vivendi will need time to make copies, etc, especially for a game thats destined to sell like hell. :thumbs:

I'm betting we'll be thinking about our upcoming halloween costumes when we get HL2. Then after we get HL2, we'll change our mind for halloween and dress as a combine or something.

Painkillers expansion has been pushed back to November 10th.

That sounds suspicious to me. I'd say Dreamcatcher is dictating terms for the developer. You don't go adding gameplay feature with a couple of months to go. You're fixing bugs and playtesting at that point. What they're really saying is "November is much better time to make more money from sales"

I just wish Valve and Vivendi would come out and tell us their devious plans at least Dreamcatcher had the balls to.
