View Full Version : Will Half-Life: Source be the original Half-Life or the one with the HD upgrade?

Just wondering. I personally like the weapons in the High-def upgrade pack.
So-which one will it be? It'll be cool to see the M4 upgraded.

Hopefully they're the originals.

I hope they at least use character\monster models from the high-def upgrade, it'd be a shame to have incredibly low poly things running around in an engine as powerful as source, particularly when official higher poly models already exist.

is it actually just half life on the scource engine, or is it with new graphics and stuff?

Unless there is some financial/legal issue with the HD pack (remember it was particular to Blue Shift..which isn't available via steam) then I don't see why HL:S wouldn't use the higher poly models. If they use the original polys that will be a major dissapointment.

That's a vague question tbh.

The game is unchanged with respect to storyline etc (it is just an engine port). Graphically it will be fairly untouched, and with respect to the look of the creatures gun etc we really don't know at this point in time.

Actually, I would hope that they don't use the HD pack, and actually go with the Super high definition content from the PS2 version of Half-Life..

That stuff was the bomb :D

I liked the blue shift HD pack except for one thing, the standard pistol. As a fand of the real life beretta pistol, that sorry excuse for a beretta was the single most ugly, disgusting, pathetic and god awefull beretta I have EVER seen.

My beretta 92fs Brigadier:

B-shift beretta. it's sad really

I suppose it mostly irks me not just because its a god awefull model, its that they made it WORSE than the default glock. that had its own problems but it wasn't too bad. I'd dearly love to see an extremely highly detailed glock for HL:S, with really high rez textures. But my god how could the spend all that time making the new shotgun and M4 then totally pooch screw the pistol?

I completly fail to see what's wrong with that.. In comparison to the real life and AA's version.

Ah, well you must not have a very good eye for detail when it comes to guns in games.and i shoulda put a pic that showed the AA gun more thoroughly. here you go. This is the best modeled beretta of any game I've seen, and one made for AHL is a damn close second. They even included the wear marks the slide makes on the barrel! If you still can't see how inferior that HD pack model is, nothing short of holding a real one in your hand can convince you.

Again, I fail to see how the BS one is in any way inferior to any other one.. Aside from poly counts (Which is understandable, considering the timeframes which this things were released)

EDIT: I take that back, if anything, I think the BS looks better than the AA one.. And it looks cooler than the RL one a well, IMO.

Well then, my friend, you certainly have skewed tastes. I'm glad you like the Blue shift one despite totally incorrect dimensions and lack of detail and poor animation, because you can play it. Me, I have to either put up with an ugly model or uninstall ALL high def stuff to get rid of it.

But like I said. It irks me more than just because it's a bad model. the high def pack was supposed to improve everything and they replaced a fairly well modeled glock (though poor skin) with a beretta that looks like it was drawn for yosemite sam.

I can't see the difference, also it doesn't say on bs that it is a berreta it could a different gun.

I just dont liek the way the gun looks right below the hammer in BS.

There is no other gun manufactured that looks like the beretta that isn't made by beretta or companies like Taurus that is equivalent of Mercury to Ford in cars.

and besides, even if it isn't supposed to be a beretta, it is still a very poor model compared to others out there. You guys just aren't actual shooters and aren't familair with how real guns work and look.

yeah thats a bad part of it besides the deformed slide and superwide barrel. there is no groove for the hammer to go, which doesn't even recock after firing! not to mention the slide magically engaging on its own during reload.

I dont see a difference...

and would you say the original looked anything like a real glock? It was totally square for gods sake!

Rocketman9mm
29-08-2004, 09:18 AM
glocks are very square with 90 degree angles. i'm just saying it comes a hell of a lot closer than that beretta does.

The Half-Life games use weapons visually based on real guns. However, Valve changed aspects of their design and performance in order to balance the gameplay. Just like the MP7 in HL2, which has a Valve-exclusive integrated GL. The guns are extensively modified versions of real guns. So the Beretta... isn't.

After using the HD pack for the last three or so years, I almost just can't tolerate the old ones. They just weren't great.

I also hope they use the PS2 models for HLS.

i like the HD weapons, just not that damn pistol. as I have been a beretta fan for years it hurts to look at. the pack really helps the character models greatly.

You DO realize you can just get a .pak editor and delete the berretta model, right?

p_9mmhandgun.mdl
v_9mmhandgun.mdl
w_9mmhandgun.mdl

pak1.pak for HL, pak1.pak (or is that pak2.pak? It's whichever one is larger than 1mb in size), for Op4, and pak2.pak for Blue-Shift.

Just don't delete the files from the pak0.pak for ANY of them... That's the glock model..

Jeremy Dunn

To further elaborate on what Jeremy Dunn said, you could also take the model from ahl that you liked and add it in. You would prolly need to rename it.

Rocketman9mm, I found a better version of the Bretta for Half-Life on the internet.

Rocketman, I feel your pain. That... Beret-whatever in BS is quite malformed and well, indeed disgusting to look at.
The Baretta is such a cool looking gun, but you wonder how hard it is for these modelers to get it right, or atleast attractive.
BTW the AA Baretta is VERY nice indeed.
