Far Cry: why is it so hated?

i ordered a new computer and farcry comes with it for free. And i think it looks like alot of fun.

But it seems like everyone on this forums doesnt like farcry.....

Could you tell me why? and hows MP in farcry?

Far Cry is a fun romp. Yes it's a glorified tech demo but you'll still have fun playing it. Also it's free so it's win win for you.

Well, it's a fun game indeed. Most people don't want to accept that as a fact, since they are too souped up with their HL2 fanboyism (no offence). However, it does have flaws such as the graphics are a bit too flashy - and the plot/story which is extremely pathetic. The MP is pretty shallow, and you'll soon be bored. A.I is ok, I guess.

In my books - it's a 8/10. So yeah, it's worth the 20 hours of gameplay.

i thought far cry was a good game, but it got very hard towards the end, and also, the ending was horrible. I havent played the mp for long, but it was kind of boreing, maybe when some mods come out ill try it again.

I don't hate the game but I simply didn't find it enjoyable. I only treid the two demos they released. I don't know what there is but I found the in-game combat somehow, err, clumsy. It felt like the player weighted more than 600 elephants. the graphics engine was really impressive though.

Maybe somewere back in my head I'm trying to avoid any games that could be challengers to HL2 or Doom 3, so when I'll get those two gems in my hands they seem fresh and something I've never played

Farcry is great! Wicked fun and sweet graphics! although it can get tough at times but apart from that it's A+ :thumbs:

I don't know what doom 3 is like though but i get the strong impression its one to miss, but that only what i've heard I'm not listening till i've play it because someone told me max payne was crap and i believed them till i played it! :hmph:

I can assure you that anyone who says Doom 3's gameplay is bad and so is Far cry's is a moron. I can expect someone not to like the oldschool approach id did for D3, but Far cry is undeniably fun (nice weapon balance, open-ended combat)

I didn't like Far Cry. The graphics were gorgeous, but the game left me cold. It was a combination of bugs (especially that sound bug :x), the reptitive nature of the enemies, the lackluster level design, and other things. It's not a bad game, but it is not a good game either. I would rate it 6.5/10.

Could have been much better if they took the time to add more enemies and polished it up better.

Oh. You shouldn't have that much of a problem of playing Far Cry. But I doubt you can play it with all settings maxed out.

Certain games have great level design. Call of Duty, for instance was a shooter that only had one path, but it didn't feel like it. Call of Duty felt like the level design was dyanmic. Far Cry doesn't have that. Far Cry has the ability to render 1 KM distances, but you feel like you are on a guided path. Quite disappointing in my mind. They restricted level design purely based on a design choice than an engine limitation/performance issue (like Doom 3).

The interiors were :x. They looked pretty but it just lacked great level design that is needed to pull off a great indoor level.

I didn't like it. Pretty game, definitly. MP really, really, really, was bad. Very simple minded, and there wasn't even a bunch of cool weapons or 1 cool gametype for it.

I didn't really feel the sp. Some people realy liked it...but for me it was just ....ehhhh.

Far Cry still rocks. The demo utterly sucked for ATi cards, but when I got a hold of the full game it turned out to be a great game after all, without all the bugs.
You'll be able to run it with detail settings on full, but I don't know about AF and FSAA. There are also a couple of patches you might want to install.

Call me a moron then because I thought FarCry's gameplay sucked. You can't say anything is undeniably fun because people have different tastes. I felt that FarCry was a chore to play through, it wasn't gripping, it was one cliche after another. One stereotypical, generic enemy after another saying a generic thing toward you in a very generic voice and tone. The mutant enemies are unispired and annoying to fight against. The main characters are irrelevant to the game. The aiming was too slow for the speed of the enemies. It felt like one random mission after another with no final goal in mind. The story sucked, the gfx were nice in terms of the landscape, but the art and design for it was ugly ie character design. Hell I could go on all day about the flaws in FarCry. But the main thing for me was that by the end of it I didn't finish it because I wanted to, I finished it because I felt I owed it to myself to, I was obliged to because it had already taken up too much of my life. Anyway that's just my opinion.

I don't mean to give a wrong impression of it Calhoun, if you haven't played it then I'd recommend it. Because it had a nice setting and everything. I just feel that because I had seen the scores it was getting I was expecting more than the exprerience provided me. I don't think it's a bad game, maybe I was being harsh, but I think I'm so critical of it so people won't be blinded by the graphic effects of the game and rate it on that.

I didn't like the game first time round. Thought it was cliched and easy (Played on Medium difficulty), but then i played it the second time round and it was really fun, up until the Catacombs, where it became kinda boring again. But still its a great game if you've got the patience for it.
