I seem to remember a certain demo that involved the lines "Rise and shine Mr. Freeman, rise and shine..." So, maybe it's the rooster crowing at the rising sun.

On the other hand, that whole illustration could be about time running out: *old* Father Time, *old* Gordon (with the "waiting" speech bubble), the sand timers on the wrong side of youth, and the "grandfather" clock. All topped by the rooster straining for a dump, or crowing its brains out calling for the damn game to be finished... depends on how you look at it really.

That whiteboard in particular is a pure setup, and done purely to generate threads like these!

The "Odessa Scene" on the board sorta intrigued me because it's the name of a city in the Ukraine. Since HL2 takes place in Eastern Europe apparently, it may have some significance. Maybe that's where HL2 actually takes place!

Perhaps throw that old Gordon in for fun, meaning like he time travels and has to kill himself in the future to save the world (the past woudl be more likely, but then Valve has a way of surprising us!)

Yeah, I thought about that too. Most likely, that's the "dOg" logo which will show up on the robot. (The last letter should be a g, notice how 'q' is bent). Either that, or it's a top view of a map.

Basically I think they are just saying that the game is coming soon. Hence the sands of time running out, the cock crowing heralding a new era of gaming (or it's coming out tomorrow morning :P ).


And the old Freeman seems like a reference to the fact that a fairly great deal of time has passed since the original game, and hints to some sort of cryogenic storage or time travel being used to keep Freeman young for the G-Mans purposes. Backed up by the fact the G-Man tells Freeman to "wake up and smell the ashes" in the E3 Videos, I'm sure he wouldn't just be standing over your bed in Freemans semi-detached.
