After a long 2 and a half hour ride we (me my best friend and my dad) FINALLY arrived at valve.

As I was in the waiting room Waiting for Gabe, I saw lots of neat stuff Most of you have probly seen all of this before but here it is anyways.

(I can't remember all the names of the people I was introduced too, but they were all really nice guys)
Soon Marc showed up we shook hands and he introduced himself. He said he would be talking us on the tour because gabe is in a meeting. =( We walked in and he introduced me to all these game developers, they showed me what they did and how they do it (VERY CONFUSING) I have some pictures of some of the modleing for For the guy on the big monitor talking to you in one of the demos. Here he is.

We went into the steam room, With the guys that made steam. marc asked us if we had any complaints we should tell them now. I said no. and there like are you SURE and I said yeah.. I don't have any problems with steam..

Then we went into this place where the guy there is doing the facial animation, It was so cool how they did it. the lip sink and the facial animation was awesome. I don't have any pictures of that cuz i was too busy looking at it.

On the tour I asked the people about fortress 2 They would not tell me anything about it.

Then we went into the Concept and 3d modeling office, The guy there showed us all the aliens in half life 2 I didn't take any pictures because I didn't think they would let me. He showed us all these aliens that didn't make it into half life some of them were pretty weird looking lol then he showed me the strider and stuff and i asked him I herd you can pilot the strider. and the guy said .... He didn't say anything. lol. he dosent want to spoil anything. He allso told us that the first head crab was purple and it had butt cheeks.LOL. and the Face hugger from alien was there insperation for the head crab.

We left the room And Marc asked us if we were hungry we could grab some food. Me and my friend grabbed a pop. here is his all the food that was there.

I asked him about the script leak he said yeah it was leaked but it wont make sense if you read it. So they arnt worrying too much about it

He told me that allot of deff people have been sending them letters because they want to play half life but they cant understand it. so there will probly be a sub tittle option in half life 2.

Then we went in for the play test and gabe stopped by we shook hands and introduced ourselves's and talked to us for a bit. He asked me if i was into moding. I said no, Is it easy? and he said they are trying to make it easy and he told me there is so many things that you can do with the scource engine. I asked him when half life 2 will be released. and he said VERY SOON! We talked for a little bit more and I asked him for a picture with him.

He told me to tell him What he thought about the game when we were done.
So we started playing from the begin of the game the intro to the game is bad ass you probly already have seen it just the G man saying its been allong time mr freeman and all this other stuff. I got out of the train.. the combine are jerks. I stand there and if i don't get out of the way they push me. so I picked up a box and threw it at them.. then they chased me and beat me with there stick thing that shocks me, I walked around and this combine knocked some pop can off a table and he was like PICK IT UP so I did..... AND THREW IT AT HIS FACE!!!! and then he chanced me forever beating me =( The game is soo fun! You guys will love it. even just walking around throwing things and looking at things! we played for about half an hour. I dotn wanna tell you anything about it here, because i don't want to spoil anything..I cant wait for this game! Then the marc told us that thats all we can play because he didn't want to spoil anything when we got to play it at home.

This tour was very fun It was well worth sitting in the car for 2 and a half hours.

This news has restored my confidence in Halflife 2! The whole "pick it up" bit...that's some crazy amounts of interaction, right there.

This also proves that valve IS hiding quite a bit from us. We haven't seen any examples of picking things up, and stuff like that...

Heh, i think that the combine telling you to pick up the can is for new player to relize that you can pick things up, because it could be very easy to miss but the combine telling you to pick it up is kinda like a quasi training course. i wouldn't be surprised if the combine made you submit to their will and do little things to get you to be comfortable with the controls.

But your statement: "they refuse to bumpmap models" doesn't mean anything. Developers have a wide array of basic tools to create content. You have your basic shape wich is composed of polygons, and you dress these up with textures. Now, weither it's a standard texture, a bump-map, a normal map or one of these +some specular lighting, it doesn't matetr how you build your characters, what matters is the end result.

Now you ask, what is the end result?
A model that has a good "look's good / runs well" ratio.
You could simply use an unlimited amount of polygons and ultra high-res textures to make a good looking model, but then it wouldn't run well.

So, what did Valve achieve? The most realistic characters I've ever seen, and they run well to boot.

Your statement is the equivalent of:
"That guy built is house out of wood and stone! What a dumbass, everyone knows you need bricks to make a good house!"
or
"That guy paints with pastels?! We all know aquarel is muuuuch better".

It just sort of apears in front of you as if you are holding it except there is no actual hand holding it up. Sort of like the steering wheel on the buggy. I don't have DX currently installed so I can't really show you. Trust me, it's no big deal anyway.

I got out of the train.. the combine are jerks. I stand there and if i don't get out of the way they push me. so I picked up a box and threw it at them.. then they chased me and beat me with there stick thing that shocks me, I walked around and this combine knocked some pop can off a table and he was like PICK IT UP so I did..... AND THREW IT AT HIS FACE!!!! and then he chanced me forever beating me =( The game is soo fun! You guys will love it. even just walking around throwing things and looking at things! we played for about half an hour.
