So, i wrote an e-mail to VU Games as part of the press (technically, I am :) ) and gave them a rundown of what had happened, with valve's response quoted. About 20 minutes later, i get this response:
Do you have the contact info of the rep at VU Games that contacted you?
Michael Bowman
Manager Online Support
Vivendi Universal
at least it wasn't a cookie-cutter response. No VU rep contacted me, but i sent him links to gamespot, gamespy, gamepro, and IGN. We'll see what happens.

This seems like a step in the right direction :)

So they're looking for the guy who "contacted" you, eh? Sounds like those boys are on a mole hunt. I have a feeling somebody's head is gonna roll for this one.

Spiffae,
Did you fill out the 'contact us' form on the VUGames site? I think the guy that answered you is the webmaster, he wants to know who he should talk to at VUGames to find out what the real story is. "Hi, this is Mike Bowman, I'm the web guy. Are you in PR? I got an e-mail asking about the HL2 release date changing or something. Do you know anything about that?"
Andrea Sarkisian is the VP of communications at VUGames, we should try e-mailing her. I'm not sure of her address but andrea.sarkisian@vugames.com seems to work, everyone who reads this should try sending a short message so she'll notice that a lot of people want to know what the deal is.

Vivendi Universal [/B] I know what you should do. Contact somebody else, then, whene they ask you to tell them about the guy who contacted you about this matter, give them the name of the online support maneger. :cheese:
After that, tell Michael Bowman(online support maneger) that if he tells you that is rumor is true\false, you will tell the other guys from VU that you lied about Michael Bowman. Shortly, just blackmail him.
God... my english is so limited...;(

I hope the guy doesn't get fired for this, but a pay cut is probably reasonable ......
Anyway, the good news is that this goes a little ways to denouncing the rumor. Of course that guy might not know what the hell he's talking about either, hard to say.

It doesn't go anywhere toward denouncing the rumor. Here's what happened: the Vivendi webmaster got an e-mail from Spiffae asking about the release date. Since Vivendi has a lot of PR and communications people, and the webmaster doesn't know anything about the HL2 release date, he replied and asked Spiffae who he should talk to in PR about the HL2 release date. The webmaster is not 'hunting down moles', he's trying to figure out who to talk to in PR to get an answer for Spiffae.

Yeah that proves nothing unfoprtunatly... although i think some wierd stuff is going on between Vivendi and Valve. The fact that Valve hasn't come out to Deny or Validate this information. it leads me to beleive that there's something really odd going on... like maybe Valve doesn't want this Delay but they don't have control over it and are fighting it?
This is pure speculation on my part... I just can't understand why Valve hasn't stepped up to confirm any of this

Online petitions are stupid. Besides, Valve and Vivendi are well aware that fans would rather have the game sooner than later. I just wish Valve would release an official statement and lay the speculation to rest.
Of course, if they confirm the delay, they'd better have a damn good reason for it and one hell of a rationalization for promoting the September 30th date so ardently!

still worth a try , and i dont think it needs to be pushed back since Gabe himself said that its ready for september 30

I would rather have a finished game late, then a buggy game early.

Last I heard, the delay wasn't about the game itself, only the CD protection.

Everyone's said that Valve is responsible for the game so they set the release date. But if VU is distributing, i.e. manufacturing the CDs, doesn't that mean they are in charge of the CD protection? And so if there is a problem there, they would in fact be the ones to make the call?
