STALKER is set in a open enviroment, with little or large amounts of objectives depending on how you play.

Half-Life 2 is set in a urban enviroment, with lots of objectives, and scripted sequences.

I say HL2. STALKER may be a great game, and that is where the problem lies. It MAY be a great game, or it could be a complete buggy flop. It will either make or break the development company I think, but with HL2 at least we have a resonable idea what we are getting.

Stalker only looks good on screenshots, in motion, the animations are horrible, the framerate is even worse, the action scenes look stiff and boring.

Because HL2's start bit is Half Life does'nt mean it will be as good as HL and anyway, HL hit right at a peak moment, there was no competition almost and thats why HL got so big with the help of CS/DoD etc it would of been nothing. In 2 years ive played HL's online deathmatch once and it ****ing blows beyond belief. Mods made HL so popular.

Stalker on the other hand looks far more interesting : true story : better graphics : on par physhics : no manipulator BUT has monsters that use the laws of gravity against you (which is FAR FAR more exciting, give it 1 week before people are bored of HL2's manipulator) : looks quite scary : amazing AI or so we are told : from the looks of things in video's it will have pretty damn impressive lighting. Oh not to mention, the most beautiful sky's in any game ive yet to see :p

Honestly, What has HL2 got that others game dont except for its name but if you want me to start naming shit sequels just say the word. Its facial expressions is the ONLY thing HL2 has and they are'nt much more impressive than doom3's.

Like how was I supposed to know? I just asked for an opinion on which you all would think would be a better game in the end. I asked because theyre both gorgeous looking games, employ physics, quite possibly good story telling in both games, the potential factor of quality gameplay.

I dont know how different they are other than STALKER seems to be focused on a different objective than Half-Life 2 obviously.. but all i wanted to see was if STALKER was a worthy opponent of HL2. My friend and I got to talking and he said he thought Stalker would beat out HL2.. I disagreed with him and decided to ask you all.. dont get me wrong my friend likes half-life 2 he just thought stalker would be better... so whats the harm in asking other people..

For an unbiased opinion, post the same question in a Doom 3 forum. That way, there's not slant. We had a Stalker vs. Halo 2 thread up that actually worked a while back.

HL2 is obviously the victor on the HL2 forums.

And if you think the new HL2 screens compare to them then your incredibly naive and prooves the sort of person you are, as for the fps problems, watch the lateslt video, they have been ironed out completely and as for the actual game, well go find the interview about the game and you never base a game on a few video's of it because they wont show much of the actual *game*, just messing about in the game.

STALKER looks impressive from a technical standpoint but i'm yet to see the actual gameplay impress me. If it ends up being like Deus Ex it'll totally stomp Half-Life 2 to pieces, but based on the developers track run, i'd say thats not gonna happen.

It has, they've already said you'll need one hell of a pc to run it on top settings, HL2 isnt made that way, it looks meh compared to the standards in graphics doom3 has set and farcry for that matter and what stalker will too.
