View Full Version : new doom3 review
Much of the immersion in Doom 3 is due to the incredible engine, and the amazing artwork... An excellent game, but it’s a bit of a shame that you can finish it in two days, after waiting for four years.
didn't think it would be that short

It feels a hell of a lot longer when playing it. Wore me down, scared the pants off me and I loved every minute of it. What I thought was really cool, is the scares are still there even if you played it once. I don't know how they managed to do that, but I take my hat off to id.
i just started playing doom3 and i am soooooo scared, i got to the part really early in the game when your going through vents and all the whispering, man this game is gonna kill me :x

You think you might get 'immune' to being scared after a while, but damn, it continues throughout the whole game.

And to the topic creator, why did you focus on the only bad point in the review? These guys loved it and yet you choose to pick out that part specifically.

Nice to know all the UK mods waited for the Official release date and bought it from a shop.
heh.
EDIT: That was sarcasm.

There's also this possibility of there being two endings, but cause of the storm coming in the distance I can't go back and check that further right now.
Definately has a lot of replayability, there's tons of it that you miss the first time round, I missed the mirror the first time round, shat myself when I finally did see it, having absolutely no idea what to expect, thinking people just said the mirrors are creepy when you look at them.. I love it :D

i love doom3, it's the best pure unadulterated shooter ever
however i wanted to post something that i had not heard before, them saying it was short, not necessarilly a bad thing but interesting when people are saying it took pc-gamer 24 hours to beat, and then gamershell saying it's about 15, just interesting to note

I think they got the length just right, its not too short and its not too long. It has just the right scares in the right places, the creatures are fantastic, the animation is really well done with some great touches. The little very easy to miss touches, such as the zombified expression on the faces of those using computers are well done. The sound is excellent. It really is one hell of a game, and the ending is perfect, wipes the floor with most movie endings.
I can't find a problem with it, except maybe the editor, but then I never much liked Hammer neither, so I'm bound to not like this one hehe

Replay value?
definately has reply value. I played it through on the easiest setting, immediately on completing it I went back on nightmare to play it again, still got scared, still had things make me jump. Saw things I hadn't seen the first time round, did things differently.
Just like people will go back and play the original Doom again and again, the same I reckon will happen with Doom3. Especially when PC's improve and id release updated higher res textures and increase the poly counts on the humans and creatures. It'll be a whole new game yet again, and if you use the r_gamma setting its a whole new game again even, cause you can see area's you didn't before, looks quite different, just as scary, just as cool :D
