Hi.

I'm always playing old beta 5.5, because I don't wonna use Steam and just want to play against bots offline. Now, when I started an AHL-Server, just a minute ago, HL suddenly said 'This executable is old, get a new one!' (well, not exactly like that); problem is: I know that AHL somehow tries to authentize(?) the User on the WON.net or whatever, it tries to reach the internet, even in LAN gaming. That's probably why it says, I got to get a new version. Now... how can I avoid that? Of course, pulling the internet-plug would probably work, but I can't just do that, I have important things running all the time. Is there any other way?

Thanks for help ;(

TBH fighting against steam is pointless. Yes it has been known to have bugs, but its quite good now. Given that half life 2 installs steam whether you like it or not, and seeing as you are a member on here, its reasonable to assume you will be getting steam in a couple of months anyway, so why not get it now.

You can't play on WON any more. It isn't there.

I'm not fighting it, I'm just not using it, since I only want to play on LAN. And I do not play on WON, where did I say that...?

Just need to isolate HL from the internet somehow... :|

So, anybody? :(

When you start a HL server, it needs to authenticate with WON, LAN or not. That is just the way it is. Even if you did isolate it, it would still not work.

Hm. But that's just AHL, isnt it? The other mods all work... :(

Get a firewall program and block the HL executable from accessing the internet.

Dunno if it'll fix your problem, but it will stop it from talking to the outside world.

Yeah, that's what I thought of, too... I'll see :)

Get Zone Alarm and when it asks for hl.exe to get out deny it access, that should fix it.

A LAN server does not authenticate with WON unless you're doing something wrong.
