I hate multiplayer gaming

My night started off with my friend and I wanting to rent Resevior Dogs on DVD. Like most things, Blockbuster doesn't have it at the store. Such garbage. They call two other stores nearby and they don't even carry Resevoir Dogs on DVD. How in the hell does 3 blockbusters not carry Resevior Dog? Its bad enough that they have to carry so much soft porn at blockbuster, you think they could save some shelf space for decent movies.

I didn't feel like renting anything else so we went to my place to game online. He wanted to play Battlefield Vietnam. It is not a bad game at all except its sucks. I hate that freakin game so much I may wake up one night and microwave its CD's. Between the connection problems detected, the bugs and the balancing issues, there is no way to enjoy the game. Unless you enjoy getting Helo raped.

My friend quits out of BF:V because he is disgusted with it. He wants to play Far Cry on multiplayer. I've never played Far Cry on multiplayer, but I heard it sucks. I decide to be open minded and we load up Far Cry. Apparently, you have to register with a user name and an email address. Not so bad, except every user name on the planet is taken. Its like trying to find an aol screen name except worse. I finally come up with some retarded user name.

Going back into the game and enter in my user name and password like a good little boy. Out of nowhere a screen pops up saying "please enter CD key." What the hell. Could they make that anymore convienent for you? I've only had the flippin game for a month now and it asks for my CD key when I decide to play multiplayer. What is really annoying is they didn't label the CD Key in the Far Cry box I bought. Hell, I don't even think my version of Far Cry came with a manual. For some reason, I kept the plastic that was used to shrink wrap the CD's which happened to have a sticker with some numbers on it.

I enter in the CD Key and get the lovely message "Ubisoft.com CDkey verification servers are down, please try again" I didn't feel like putting up with that crap or playing its boring ass single player, so I quit out of Far Cry.

Now I am pissed so I load up Halo. Good ole Halo, the game and the engine is crap, but the multiplayer is still there. After searching for a server, I found a nice CTF game on the blood gluch map. I let my friend play. He's playing. No wait, he is more like wandering around. It takes him like 5 minutes to get his first kill. Between getting fragged and TKed by the same a-hole, he is having a rough time. He is starting to get the hang of playing and he is having fun. But, this one idiot keeps on TKing everybody on the blue team. The admin joined the game and sent a message wanting to know who was doing all of the TKing. 30 seconds later, my friend gets kicked and banned from the server. He was just playing the game, hell he didn't even TK anybody. I hate TKers but I hate Admin who are too incompetent to ban the right person.

I'm like screw it, I quit out of halo and we watch TV. At least TV hasn't done anything to piss me off recently.

Yeah i just don't bother with anything anymore except Valve games on steam and Diablo2/Starcraft on Battle.net. BF1942 and it's bad netcode infested clones are just a waste of my precious time. Far Cry doesn't really deserve a mention but i'll say it anyway, Far Cry....there.

Steam just makes playing online hassle free. Kickass server browser, so quick and simple to swap between playing CS, Dod and NS. Lovely netcode ahh it's all such a breeze :)

Don't get me started on Counterstrike TK'ers, and America's Army TK'ers. In AA however, there IS a way to get back at the TK'ers !

The thing is, when playing a online FPS, if you TK someone else, you get banned or worse, because the admins are incompetent. HOWEVER, in America's Army, there is a small way to get back at them. Simply flash-bang them, and say "Sorry, you got in the way" the nicest way you can . It only deducts 5 ROE from you, not that much when you get to get back at the bugger who was gunning your team down ! :P

the trick to online games is to find a server that has a good mix of: good ping, mature players and good admins ...I was an admin in my clan server for almost 2 years and it's sometimes hard to police the server without pissing someone off

blahblahblah, just look for a good server and put it in your favourites...or get All Seeing Eye ...it does a lot of the searching for you

It depends on the game. In direct TCP/IP games, it does matter. IE. playing SC with someone with a high ping lags the whole entire game. Simply because everything has to be in sync.

Always good to know a few good servers for your games. I have always played at my clan's servers (CS,DoD,NS,BFV) and I don't remember the last time I saw a hacker or the last time a smacktard got to stay.

I really hate multiplayer games at times.

One day I was playing AvP2 online and we were playing a round of survivor I think it was. So in the end it was me and this other guy on the marines that were still alive. We were staying together then boom. The jackass killed me on purpose so he could be the survivor and win. He's laughing and going "LOL YAY I WIN!!!". So I get pretty pissed off, next round comes and I just go searching for him and I find and kill him. He ended up being the admin and I got banned.....


Another time while playing AA on the pipeline stage I was on the attacker team. I opened a door a little way so that I could peek inside the main large room where the defender's start and see if I could take some guys out. Well here comes a jackass on my team that decides to open the door all the way and run back, I ended up being in plain view of about 3 enemies. I had pretty much no chance of surviving that one. I cannot wait til my honor is high and won't have to deal with the dumb noobs.

No it doesn't. Not only is it better than the XBox version, the multiplayer is some of the best PC FPS multiplayer currently out.

Anyway, those were crappy experiences sure, but at least you weren't playing Diablo 2, which has the worst community of any online game EVER. Well, it's tied with CS, but lately I haven't run into too many morons on CS.

Play some Call of Duty or CS:CZ or HLDM...all easy to get onto and I've had zero problems with any. Also UT2004 is fun to play online :D

As for the mods of Half-Life, I've never got into them. Part of the reason was a crappy computer back when Half-Life was released and then I forgot about Half-Life till recently and then I had problems with Steam.

I did play some Day of Defeat today, my kill to death ratio was 1 to 3. :( It was great fun, just wish I could get used to the game quickly and find an option to turn off that VoIP. Nothing more annoying than a 12 year old insulting me over a mic because I'm in last place for the server. Oh Well.

I just got banned from that SOF server (66.208.104.211:27015).
It was me and a really bad noob vs 3 of the SOF members. I went like 45/10 (I know, bad ratio but it was basically 1v3) on inferno before they started running scripts on me that made me stop moving and spray my gun. I asked why they were doing that, and after several failed attempts at using the "ban" command they kicked and banned me from the server. I can't stand it when dumb admins ban you without even giving a warning or reason.

I used to play on tfc shooting my teammates (snipers) off the roof into a mass on enemies, needless to say I get banned quickly. When you suck at a game the only way to have fun is to spoil other people's fun :D

Personally I find players that ruin other players fun just because they are not having fun to be rather .... lame.

Fortunatley for me there are not so many servers in South Africa, so grievers/lamers/cheaters are very limited because a perma ban is a effective punishment, no LOL and next server....more like new CD Key required.

My recipe for online amusement:

1) Regular community
2) Effective admins
3) Strict rules that are enforced
4) Case of beers
5) Play for fun, not stats

I may not be a particularily skilled player, but I am a player having a great time playing.

On another note; I asked a bunch a ppl on IRC for a UT2k4 match in DM-Corrugation and damn thats been the best fun I've had in a while when it comes to online gaming.
