Why are so many people looking so far like this...People over at maxis want Sims 3 before Sims 2 comes out...

Considering Source is made, it'll probably only take them 2.5 yrs possibly...

half life 2 probibly wasnt a 6 year project.... knowing valve, they probebly went thru 6 "half life 2's" before settling on this one... probibly started this one in 2002 or something...

it will probibly take them 2 years or less....

I'm guessing another 3-4 years...they already have source, they probably already have a basic storyline written.

id like to see gordon go back to BMRF to find a new kind of Xen super race there and beat the shot out of them. Or just go back to retrieve his lost possesions

BMRF was nuked.....gordo's possesions are toast :) Though they could pull a STALKER and have horibly mutated versions of the xen aliens there.

Is it a fact that there will be a hl3 or you guys just assuming/guessing? I really hope theres no hl3 actually just because I dont want hl to be one of those gay sequel games. I think hl2 will end it hopefully if not ill be getting hl3 anyways :)

No half life 2 did take them 6 years (the version they are releasing)...they built source with half life 2...an engine from ground up otherwise they could of had it out in a few years.

They already had the entire games story written when they made half life 1 afaik.

@thread. Probably about 3 - 4 years as they are having a long vacation when they release HL2 as they have'nt stopped working since the day they started HL1.

he should build a home in xen for hl3!!! it could have rpg style elements and he could kick some butt while making a living for himself

One of the Valve employees said in an interview that they had to complete the storyline for HL2 AND HL3 before they could really start working on HL2. Plus Valve registered half-life3.com, which redirects you to half-life2.com.

And I'm guessing it will take Valve about 2-3 years before they finish HL3, by which time Source will have had more than a few upgrades.

I don't think it takes more than two years, I bet it's coming December 2, 2006

Well actually i change my mind, if HL2+mods is as good/better than HL1+mods they will probably take there time with HL3 to rake the cash in.

That would be cool if we saw a short clip of Half-Life 3 in the next E3

yeah theres no way they can have a clip of HL3 at E3 2k5. 2k6 is a possibility.

I think it'd be maybe 3 years? I think it depends how long they plan on using the source engine for. If it's gonna be a never ending engine ala Unreal, then I say 6 years. But if they don't then I say 3 because I doubt they want to use an outdated engine for HL3.

They will prolly just update the source engine for HL3, maybe a 2 or 3 year dev project then.

long enough for valve to suck the HL2 profit dry
