executable out of date??

hey all could u plz help me. Im trying to play halflife and CS and all of these games lol but i keep getting error message saying executable is out of date. I DL all the files for it and try to rejoin and i get the same message. Please help me im addicted and need my HL fix

You don't have the latest version. Save yourself the trouble and download Steam.

No, Steam uses it's own authentication Steam that makes WON redundant. Bare with me a second I'll see if I can get you some links.

ok ty very much...is it better to have steam? im used to won and was going to make our own server for Iron+Cross clan on won. But if it will be easier on steam mauybe ill just do that

They're going to be shutting WON down eventually. You'd be better to get used to Steam.

You can download it from www.steampowered.com.

All of your clan members will need to upgrade to Steam to be able to play on the server.

At that link above, you should find the download page (http://www.steampowered.com/index.php?area=getsteamnow). There download the SteamInstall.exe file. Run that then it will convert all of your current Half-Life files into Steam format and then make sure all of your files are automatically up to date. That can sometimes take a while, but it's worth it :)

Rupert, it certainly works. The only difficult part is getting all of the games updated. You'd have to leave your connection running over night or something, and even then it probably won't be complete. Once it's all updated though it's just the same as running it through WON./

i find Steam alot easier than WON...especially with updates... no downloading..unzipping updates.. all that hassle is out the door with Steam :)

I still cant get server up from steam. I get message saying unable to open hldsupdatetool.exe for reading (copying) what does that mean and how do i fix it lol please help its been long few weeks trying to get server going for clan

i've never run a server before so i have no clue.. im sorry.
are u using Steam to run the server? or WON?

if its Steam, make sure u allow Steam to update fully before trying to run any games or servers... otherwise u will encounter problems..lag, or whatever else.
