CS:Source, what is this?

Half life 2 is being created on the 'source' engine, the new revolutionary engine with beefy graphics, awesome physics, great AI, etc, etc...

Half life and it's mods supposedly can be easily transfered over onto the source engine, therefore beefing up the old stuff.

They are promising Counter Strike to be transfered over, and the physics and graphics and whatnot will be improved on the old counter strike we all know and (may or may not) love.

So CS:Source is Counter strike:Source, the new and improved Counter Strike based on the Source engine.

It should be pretty much a straight port over to HL2's Source engine, with updated models and maps. The physics and stuff included in Source will be there, but just about everything else will stay the same.

well...i dunno if everything will stay the same. In the aztec demo, the level layouts were the same and all, but added barrells, and that pyramid thing, i don't know how much CS:S will stay the same...

Right. The map was the same with a few very minor changes and updated graphics.

Counter-Strike Source is sort of a direct conversion to the HL2 engine, only graphical improvements as far as I know.

I don't want to dig up any quotes or anything but i thought i read something from Gabe stating that ports of the popular mods, (i.e. CS, DOD, etc.) were being included in the HL2 release. I think it was the thread from hl2fallout.com when Gabe confirmed that DoD:source was included.

Gabes said that they'll be released at the same time or after HL2 comes out.
Wether this means they'll be downloadable or retail is anyones guess for now.

If the HL2:Special box set comes with the mods then my bet is they'll be retail.
