Having a problem, need some help.

I have just begun mapping and I made a small room with a light and player start entity. Now whin i hit f9 and click ok it just says hl.exe has generated errors and must be shut down. I guess its something having to do with the configuration but I cant figure it out. Can someone please help me? The directory I am using for hl.exe is the steam cache one, should I be using the sierra directory instead? When I use the hl.exe in the normal half life folder it says its been modified and cant run.

You should be using the hl.exe located in the main \Half-Life\ folder. That's the folder where your \valve\ and mod folders are. :)

Doesn't work with that hl.exe? I'm not sure then. Have you installed any patches you did not get from a reliable source?

You could either update your HL with the latest patch downloaded from fileplanet (or another reliable source).

Or you could re-install HL, and then install the patches from scratch.

Or you could ask a friend for his copy of hl.exe.

I just reinstalled Half Life and deleted the half life folder in the steam cache folder. It works now.
