View Full Version : User Reviews: FSW over-hyped, Riddick was short-lived.
Anyone else willing to share their experiences? :)
So I rented both of these games, and I have decided not to buy either. Riddick was good but I finished it in a day (like max payne 2), so was happy I didn't actually buy it...too short, but it was good. I wasn't really impressed with the AI either, but it did it's job. FSW, on the other hand was better,IMO. The whole action/RTS feel to it is awesome, but it has too many text displays and arrows pointing here and there...the HUD is not very good...Riddick's on the other hand looks cool. Both had very linear gameplay, the combat wasn't too open-ended either. FSW was certainly harder and challenging from the two, but I'd prefer far cry and it's clumpsy "I'll eat your ass" AI instead still - and I don't have xbox live which sucks. All-in-all, while both games were good, nothing was particularly satisfying.
That was my review. :)

Hehe. Yeah, I'd always chuckle when the mercs yelled that at me. I mean why not just have a guy shout "I'll toss your salad!"? Basically means the same thing.
Yeah, I bought Riddick and FSW. I actually liked Riddick way better. FSW was cool, but I felt like I was always fighting the controls. I just wanted to be able to issue waypoints and move my men more than 10 feet at a time. Moving them often felt like a huge chore. I also thought it was kinda silly that enemies (and you) are absolutely INVULNERABLE when shooting over the top of a box or around a corner. Wasn't bad overall though, actually it was quite fun.
But I f*cking love Riddick, the hand-to-hand, the stealth, probably one of the best FPshooters I've ever played.

I didnt like far cry... it was too simplistic.... FSW looks like my sort of game.

I went to a console cafe type place thingy and played FSW, I actually enjoyed it, and I would probably buy it if I had an xbox :\
I would have also played Riddick but they didn't get a copy of it yet, oh well.

Most reviews rate Riddick as about 10 hours worth of playtime. Have a boring day or what? :D

I can tell you that Riddick takes way more than 10 hours if you bother to do all the side-quests and fully explore the prison. Probably took me closer to 16.

Actually you are right :) , riddick does take like 12/13 hours, but I was too eager too finish it - I am the kind of guy who is more intrested in finishing the game than taking in every little detail.

I bought FSW and I really enjoy it. I don't seem to be having the control issues someone mentioned earlier either. I have no problems moving my guys where I want them to go. I'm really hoping the next game in the series add some 1 on 1 action over Xbox Live instead of just co-op. I'd love to take my squad against soneone else.

Yeah, but don't you wish you could move your guys for long distances around several different corners and stuff? Basically, I wish FSW had a waypoint system.

Yeah, the only thing that pissed me off about that game was the fact that if you realized you made a mistake by running out into the open you couldn't tell your guys "Fall back!" (return to previous position) or give them another movement order while on the run. The only option is to tell them to take cover behind the closest object... which is not a good idea if the closest object happens to be easily destructible and in the middle of nowhere.
