Well, went to Gamestop and they were out of Full Spectrum Warrior so I picked up Riddick instead. I haven't really played that much of it yet but I must say that this is a very awesome game. The opening sequence reminds me of Half-Life, credits rolling as they lead you into the prison. The hand-to-hand fighting is done VERY well, I actually prefer it to using the knives. Seeing a dude slam into a wall, blood splattering after giving him a left hook is just plain class. The stealth is also just about the best I've seen in a FPS before, sneaking around, breaking necks, slitting throats is just tons of fun. I love the minimal HUD. Riddick even has a branching conversation system like an old adventure game. Sweet.

And I haven't even picked up a gun yet!

The graphics are just absolutely mind-boggling. I don't see how this is possible on an Xbox--yet--here it is. The normal mapping on the characters makes some of them look almost photo realistic, (see the black dude doing push-ups at the start.) The lighting seems to be on par with what I've seen of Doom 3, i.e. completely stunning. The dudes weilding flashlights look particularly cool. The levels seem a little bit small, but the loading times are quick so it doesn't really matter. The ambient noises make you really feel like you're in a prison.

I just love underdog games that come out of nowhere and blow my mind. Half-life did this to me, and now Riddick. I hadn't even heard of Half-life until it started getting fabulous reviews and the same thing has happened with Riddick. Where did this game come from? Who are the developers? Overhyped games always pale in comparison to my expectations, so I'm a huge fan of underhyped games like this.

If you've got some extra cash laying around and you're an Xbox owner, I highly suggest you give Riddick a chance.

I've been looking at this and have been impressed. I suppose I should pick up an Xbox sometime...maybe over the summer.

I was thinking of picking it up, so I guess I definitely will now! That and Ninja Gaiden. One question though, from the screenshots it looks like there are proper bullet decals on bodies, are there, and are they accurate to where you shot someone?

Okay, one more thing - I've read some previews and a few reviews, but I've seen no mention of any ragdoll physics of any kind, are there? If so, are they any good?

Yes, the ragdolls are particularly cool when punching people out.

That's crappy it's only on X-Box. I was looking for a new game to get, but meh. Stupid consoles.

So is there any plans to port this over to PC? It sounds like a game I might really like, but there's no way I'm ever getting a console.

So the game releases in Europe in August to coincide with the film, this is absolutely pathetic. How long will it be until the rest of the ****ing world is recognized and kept on the same track as America? Sigh.

I have no time for the X-Box. FPS games should be made for the PC, controllers were not designed for them.

Fine...we'll keep our good games to ourselves then. :D

I totally agree
however there are exceptions...
Halo was one of them (it blew majorly on the PC, but the xbox version was fantastic)

and now Riddick.. it is a hell of a lot of fun.

I don't know about "fantastic," but it is certainly plenty good.
