i did this process to a few desert combat screenshots a while ago and they turned out pretty sweet, they were more drastic because refractor 2 isnt quite as good as source :P so yeah, it took an hour or so to do, i tried to remove most visible polygon edges so it looks more lifelike and smoother. i kinda re-did the lighting and exagerated parts, highlights and shaded areas, i added some dips/creases to the clothing and sharpened parts to give a more textured feel, i added a few small details to the main ant lion too. and the skylights, lotsa small things most of you won't notice :) tell me whatcha think! :)

i used photoshop, specifically these tools, burn, dodge, blur, blur (finger type), sharpen.. that was it
