I dont think it will be that great, at the begining of every year everyone thinks lots of amazing games will come out , but all the amazing games get delayed, get cancelled or turn out to not be as good as everyone thought they would be. I think there will be one or two great games but I dont think it will stand out from any other year.

That's what they said about 2003, and 2003 turned out to be one of the suckiest years of pc gaming.
BTW Painkiller owns. Had more fun with the demo of this "simplistic" game than any other full game of the last year.

Agreed. The game has so many cool enemies (IMO), alot of flashy effects, it's fast paced and alot of fun.

Compared to the last several years there are a lot more games that I am interested in that are scheduled to be released in 2004. Several times as many, to be more precise...
Notable PC (BeigeBox) Games of 2004:
Half-Life 2
Doom III
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Oblivion Lost
Thief - Deadly Shadows
Far Cry
Team Fortress 2
Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
Star Wars: Republic Commando
Star Wars Battlefront
Hitman: Contracts (maybe)
UT2004
Battlefield Vietnam
Painkiller
Black and White 2
DRIV3R
CS: CZ
Dungeon Siege 2
EverQuest 2
Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle Earth
Joint Operations
Soldner
The Matrix Online
Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault
Men of Valor: Vietnam (maybe)
The Movies (questionable concept)
The Sims 2
Tribes: Vengeance
Rome: Total War
World of Warcraft
... and, of course, Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude! :E
Notable XBox games of 2004:
Fable
Halo 2
RalliSport Challenge 2
Spider-Man 2
B.C.
StarCraft: Ghost
Full Spectrum Warrior
Dead or Alive: Ultimate
Jade Empire
True Fantasy Live Online
Otogi 2
True Crime 2
Metal Arms 2
Burnout 3
... and some repeats from the PC games.
Notable GameCube games of 2004:
The only one I'm waiting for is Mario Tennis (rumored to be set for a late 2004 release)!
Notable PS2 games of 2004:
Gran Turismo 4
Killzone
MGS 3: Snake Eater
Mortal Kombat: Deception
I guess you can see that I haven't been following the GameCube or PS2 games very closely... but even without those two consoles there are a lot of (probably) good games coming out in 2004.
This is gonna be the best gaming year ever... hope i'll have enough money to buy em all!

I think it's gonna be a great year. Loads of games waiting to be released. 2003 was completely crap.. nothing decent was released really.

I never think that gaming actually gets WORSE from year to year, the absolute worst case scenario is a lateral move. But most of the time things do get better from year to year and our standards change accordingly. Did you even care about normal mapping two years ago?

Dude, 2003 was not that bad for PC gaming. Since I've been playing PC games for 8 years, I've noticed the quality of games has changed. It seems like the majority of the games released today are fairly good. I cant say that was true 8 years ago.
Granted that there was no blockbuster game in 2003, 2003 still brought some good games. I especially liked Rise of Nations and Call of Duty. While neither was revolutionary, they where very very good stop gaps till the next generation of games arrives (HL2, Doom3, etc).
