I just DLed and watched this, and, I must say, I'm quite impressed--the graphics are very cool, and they seem to capture both the feel of the movies and the scope of the story very well. It almost reminded me of Total War, despite being a reworked Generals engine. Check it out!

Nice, just like Rome: Total War, another strat. game I'm looking towards. D/L'ing now.

i was also quite impressed by this trailer...the attention to detail is incredible...though every character looks like it has stubby legs or something...
but knowing that it was a modded version of the C&C generals engine made it all that much more impressive....and makes westwood studios that much less impressive...at least...their ability to make a quality game...they obviously made a decent RTS engine :P

Yeah, that game is on my "must check out" list :)
Though Rome will probably be the winner, with its way more advanced gameplay. When someone makes a Lotr mod for Rome... :O (there is already one for medieval)

Although I agree that Rome may well be the better game, BFME looks excellent anyway, and the license could very well help it pull ahead in terms of sales. Plus, it looks BFME will be going for the fast-paced, "tactical" action, whereas Rome will hit the actual strategy. I bet both will sell very well. And an LotR mod for Rome? Could be very cool, although I'd much rather see something completely original.
Im gonna dl it too....
EDIT: Where can I get the lotr mod for medieval?

have they gone and used and adaptation of 'massive' the engine used to do the battles in the movie?, if not , wouldnt it be a neat Idea to incorporate that into a game :)
Wow, that game looks awsome! a lotr strat game, can't be bad!

Massive is an incredible resource hog--they need a server farm to run it in real-time, as it simulates a crapload of guys, all high-poly and all unique AI entities (and that's without textures and battlefield details). Adapting Massive for a game would be incredibly inefficient, but gutting Generals seems to have gotten excellent results.
