A statement out of the translation of the Dutch News of Gamers. nl:

The min requirements is a bit high to experience every fell details this game has to offer. You might have to camouflaged down some settings in order to have a smoother gameplay if your pc isn' t strong enough. You can download it from the Ubisoft FTP.

Accordingly the minimal system-requests are somewhat higher than that, the finale game-version. Violent Ruckler should be the case, the down screw of the details suffices in order to come nevertheless into fluid game enjoyment.

Understandably the onset is powerful on the previously only download-server and provides for endless queues. We will attend as quickly as possible to fresh Mirrors and further information! Our Related left leads you directly to the Dutch News of Gamers. nl and the directly-download!

Update, 20.01.2004, around 19:48:

According to newest information, the official start appointment is for the downloads of the demo 0:00 today night. Therewith exists the colleague of Gamers. nl either an incorrect download-left or the demo became earlier than planned published. We advise to interrupt download-attempts and to wait until 0:00 for an official announcement with corresponding Mirrors!

Update, 20.01.2004, around 20:22 as well as Gamers. nl now reports, concerns it a Missverständinis with Ubisoft NL why the Mirror was made to early public. That would file was removed and should be meanwhile of the server again available around 23:00 clock.

I tried right clicking on the Save button but it wouldn't open the drop down menu so i could select "download with DAP". I put everything on 'Very High'. I got some texture curruption on the rocks and the enemys seemed to keep changing LOD's very often and it was noticable. But at least it ran smooth. I'm gonna try downloading the 4.10's and see if they help.

AA doesn't work for me, makes the game crash/flip out. Also had it reset my computer once.

Also, I've heard AA doesn't work properly in the beta, as well.

Hmm... well things seems to LOD at wierd places, no AA and there is that oddness with the textures. Those things don't bother me so much but the game really does have bad A.I. The guys caught me in a second when I was creeping through the bushes but they didn't seem to notice me riding around in my little boat taking potshots at them. Until I placed a bullet squarely in one's head, at which point they suddenly knew exactly where I was. I was in their line of fire a few times but they didn't seem to want to kill me until they got close enough to inspect my shoelaces. They seemed a bit grenade-happy, but at least they are polite enough to inform me when they throw one :dozey: . There was one instance where a guy yell "You're dead!" charged at me across a stretch of beach, stopped in his tracks for no reason, ran back to where he came from and started shooting me. I also wish there was a way get into a boat with guys in it and kill them. But other than that, it's a pretty good game.

level looks neat.. jungle type obviously :)

vehicles? well i was just messing around in the first level and u get to drive around in a boat.. its keyboard controlled.. and i find it better controlling than the vehicles in BF1942.. (note: i don't own BF1942, did try the demo tho and found the controlling a bit harder)

i can't answer ur replay question right now.. since i haven't played it much.. and theres no MP for it..(its a SP only demo) so im sure MP is the one that will determine the replay value.

I finished the demo. It rocks. And it ran so smooth. Nice big level with more then one way of getting to your target. 3 different vehicles. Nice AI I think. And the water is just soooo nice. hehe.

I ahve to set my settings on medium and AA doesnt work..it finnishes loading, but instead of actually going into the game, it simply clicks a few times and reboots the computer.

it looks good, but i would like to see it on best graphics, even if it did run slow, jsut a chance to look at it would be nice.

Tip: If you have an ATI card set the gfx in your display settings on the desktop to aplication preference for everything and full hardware rendering.

This has helped alot of people on the beta version. :)

Been playing FarCry for a while now - it's a bit of a mixed bag.

Everything looks pretty and I get between 40-70 fps on 1280, medium/high detail. Even at 60 fps the game looks pretty jerky to me, can't work it out.

The AI's ok, nothing special, the guns are quite fun and it sounds fine. There's plenty to explore and the vehicles come with big weapons :). The binoculars take out much of the tension, instantly revealing where the bad guys are and making it very easy.

The engine feels very Unreal to me. It doesn't really feel like your shooting ppl :/

Ok - but nothing amazing and certainly not worth upgrading for (imo of course)

(Despite all the fancy gfx it's still nowhere near as fun as Golden Eye)

I don't actually think the game looks that good either (it should be smoother at 60 fps :/) The detail is there, it just looks very cluttered and gaudy - like a fat dude in a horrible Hawaiian shirt.

The weapons are pretty generic, but feel meaty enough :) I like that the mouse sensitivity drops when you zoom in. The knife kicks ass too :) Worth a play, but not my cash.

the boat near the end of the demo is a bit of a dissapointment, I climb all the way down there and can't even drive it :( only a cheezy mortar launcher that you can't move horizontally.

just played it, i love the environment. all the sounds merge together to make it really convincing. some of the character movement and fluidity is really annoying. apart from that, i love messing around with the AI, making them chase me through the jungle then ambushing them at a narrow point. the AI is absolutely awesome, and it doesn't cheat, except when you get too far out and that bloody helicopter comes. looks promising so far.

there's a beach just past that towards the left, there's a broken down boat and a buggy parked there along with a few mercs.

you can go either way you like, there are only so many ways to complete this level but you can be pretty creative about it.

hmm, no idea then. i'm unable to check it as my f.uckin VPU keeps resetting and rebooting whenever i try and get back into a Far Cry game. gonna go for a reinstall and restart to see if that fixes it.

only thing i can think of is that the placement of the buggy is random, or what is even more likely, is that one of the AI mercs has driven it off somewhere. so go hunt him down and take back what is rightfully yours!

it's probably just the AI. you might be doing something each time that is triggering the AI to get into the buggy and drive off. or try starting off from the beginning, take your boat round but don't land on any other beaches. it might be that the buggy will only spawn if you have not landed on the other beach before (the beach you can see when you get the sniper rifle). so i can only suggest start again, get the sniper and head straight for the other beach. if it still isn't there, well...reinstall i guess.

I just played thru the demo. I love it.

I like how you have to use binoculars to get enemies on your radar
I like how the environment is big (I thought it was freakin huge)
I like the gfx (on Very High with a 9600)
I like the boats (didn't know about the buggy my first time thru)
I dunno if this happened to any of you guys.. but part-way thru the level a guy called in reinforcements from an Osprey.
I like how I could follow the helo after it dropped the guys off with my binoc's to see where it landed.
I like the lighting
I like the water
I like how the game feels.
I liked following my rocket all the way to that mortar boat and watch it explode :)
I liked pretty much everything...except the somewhat long loading time...for me it was about a min or a bit more.

one thing i loved about this demo is the randomness about some things. i was sniping on a hill checking out what the mercs were doing, scoping around for the exits and where possible reinforcements were coming, then out of nowhere a couple of birds fly across my sight and i accidently fire off a shot thinking i was under attack or something. then of course the mercs took cover after hearing a sniper shot and i had to do it the dirty old way. stupid birds. i wish you could shoot them down and roast their carcasses and possibly eat them.

Anyone else tried shooting a heli down with the rocket launcher...only to stand in shock as the rocket simply explodes and does no damage? I love throwing rocks to distract people, thats really fun. At one point, i threw a rock over a wall where some mercs were stood, they said "hey did you see that?" Then when it landed they went "What was that?" and started shooting into the bushes around where the rock landed...I then of course crawled up behind them and smashed their heads in with the oh so cool knife.

How do you use the AI up close in notarget mode? It just makes enemies dismiss you as a target. It is just like NPC freeze. Just not frozen.

oh... it's not DLing it... it's allocating the file size! no wonder! it just makes a bunch of 0's in the file so it takes up the space w/o having the file... just leave it on for a while and see what happens

Wow, that was hella fun! Excellent sound... EAX doesn't screw up or anything! GREAT AI... it scared me a few times (sneaking up behind me; rushing out from foliage)... and I've only played through it once! It ran kinda doggishly on 800x600 with 'high' details, but I'm getting the new ATi drivers so I hope that'll help. It does look great, and being able to see things from so far away is awesome.

Rocks are already in your supply and are unlimited. You only need to press "G" to throw one.

I thought the AI was also alittle bit sluggish and wierd at times but I definitly think those are just bugs that they are going to fix.
A couple times when they would go down the stairs, the would jump up and down really fast and other times they would just run up to me and not shoot me for a couple seconds. when I shot a guy and his partner checked him, I waited for awhile and no reinforcments came, not even a couple guys to help him out. Ow well, I think that will all be tweaked in the final version.
I liked hunting the wild bores. I had fun killing them. I also like the damage effect (you can see your bullet holes on the body. Loots of good thing in that demo.
I think its the best demo since Call of Duty.

I found that if you have AI auto balance on (like I did) it makes the AI suck really bad. I turned it of and it is quite a bit better, although the guys are still a bit stupid sometimes. One wierd thing I noticed, the black guys' corpses use the same skin a the white guys' corpses from a distance :laugh:. I still can't get AA to work, I set it to Application on the ATI panel but it does a VPU recover when I start the game.

Yeah.. shooting dead bodies works for me too. Even in water. I can't get over how cool this demo is.

Along with some of you.. I want god mode and notarget and infinite ammo to mess around with. I also would like to be able to explore more.

I really really like how there's a set number of guys on the island..and they communicate thru radio's and such. So when you're encountering a group...sometimes it's best to hit the radio before anyone else...or else they'll call over a patrol boat, osprey, or possibly a buggy with extra men. So cool.

Can't wait for the full version. Now I don't even care that there's scientific experiment alien thingy's in this game...

EDIT: I never use the rocks... I always use grenades instead

I played it and I must say that I was impressed on some levels and let down on others.

One thing I liked was the map. I like the jungle island type of map it was fun. I also like the way the shadows were cast on the gun. Walk under a tree or something that still has light shining through in some places and you'll see what I'm talkin about.

I was didn't like some things about the game too. The physics and the ragdolling for one. The people and object were, this is hard to describe, too heavy I guess you could say. It was almost like not having ragdolling at all. They just fall down onto the floor. Nothing cool like what happened in lets say Max Payne 2 when you shot em with the AK-47. The only objects that really moved were barrels so there isnt much to play with there. The AI was fun but its nothing new I've seen better in some other games. Sometimes the enemy was just flat out stupid and others they'd do some cool things.

I seriously doubt I'll buy the game because all around it just wasn't anything I think I'd be interested in. It had a weird feel to it that I didn't like but other then that the world looked great! The water was awesome the trees and forests were awesome but the game play was lacking. There was something wrong with the rocks too they would turn black when you looked at em at certain angles.

One thing I liked was the map. I like the jungle island type of map it was fun. I also like the way the shadows were cast on the gun. Walk under a tree or something that still has light shining through in some places and you'll see what I'm talkin about.

I was didn't like some things about the game too. The physics and the ragdolling for one. The people and object were, this is hard to describe, too heavy I guess you could say. It was almost like not having ragdolling at all. They just fall down onto the floor. Nothing cool like what happened in lets say Max Payne 2 when you shot em with the AK-47. The only objects that really moved were barrels so there isnt much to play with there. The AI was fun but its nothing new I've seen better in some other games. Sometimes the enemy was just flat out stupid and others they'd do some cool things.

I seriously doubt I'll buy the game because all around it just wasn't anything I think I'd be interested in. It had a weird feel to it that I didn't like but other then that the world looked great! The water was awesome the trees and forests were awesome but the game play was lacking. There was something wrong with the rocks too they would turn black when you looked at em at certain angles.

I havent used them personally (I loathe all cheats) but these were on the farcry forum.

i think it's quite feasible that Far Cry has the best AI i've ever seen. seriously, i've just spent the past 2 or so hours messing around with it trying different things. there are craploads of scripted moments, but they just help the game along. most of the time the AI is dynamic and adapts to what you're doing. being bombarded by mortars? move towards that beach? the AI will see you and adapt. not only that, but i managed to kill two mercs heading towards me on a boat, i walked away to get some health and a sniper rifle, then i saw two mercs conversin for a second then they made the swim towards the empty boat and proceeded to hunt me down and fill me full of lead. i couldn't even shoot back i was amazed. they even got their team mates to cover them while they made the swim out. amazing stuff. those cheats should make it a little interesting too, but i've got a lot more stuff planned for this demo.

i wasn't really all that hyped about Far Cry, but wow this demo has changed my mind, and i'm normally a really whingy sort of bastard.

I found that if you have AI auto balance on (like I did) it makes the AI suck really bad. I turned it of and it is quite a bit better, although the guys are still a bit stupid sometimes.

The AI is supposed to learn how you play in that mode so that its gets cleverer and harder to combat as you play.... may be worthwhile leaving it on and playing it a while to see if the AI gets smarter?
