Enter Sandman? I'll admit, I kind of liked it 20 years ago when it came out, but it's been one of my most hated songs since.
These are the Metallica songs that I really like: (not in any kind of order)
...And justice for all (the entire album)
Seek and destroy
for whom the bell tolls
To live is to die
Dyer's Eve (instrumental)
Anesthesia (pulling teeth)
The four horsemen
Ride the lightning
Fade To Black (instrumental)
Creeping Death
Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
Orion (instrumental)
Blitzkrieg (Blitzkreig cover)
That was just your life
the end of the line
all nightmare long
suicide and redemption (instrumental)
whiskey in a jar (The Dubliners cover)
The call of Kthulu (instrumental)
Trapped Under Ice
Master of Puppets
Others I like:
leper messiah
am I evil? (Diamond Head cover)
One
To pick a favorite would be tough, but it would be a song from the first list.
Notice I don't like any songs from Load, Reload, Saint Anger or The Black Album. Not that I hate all of them, I just don't like them. Low man's lyric is kinda cool.

Master of Puppets or Battery (full versions ofc), but I'm not a big Metallica fan.

The Unforgiven & Enter Sandman for me; not only because I love these songs, but for some technical reasons as well (I believe Enter Sandman definitely has one of the best crescendo intros for a rock song).

None. They all sound the same and they all suck.

Lawl generalized statements
anyways, I don't really see why people like to hate entire albums they did (except st. anger which is understandable).
I like quite a lot of their songs, too many to list though.

I don't like to hate those albums, I want to like them. ...I just don't.
I thought James had a cool voice in the beginning. And when Cliff Burton (the best thrash bassist of that time) was killed, they wrapped up their work on ... And justice and for all, dedicated Dyer's Eve to him, and then Metallica as I knew it ended there. Cliff had been showing the other guys how to compose music properly, which is why Ride The Lightning was so incredible.
The albums that followed Justice had different guitarists and bassists and were a different band. Not only was the chemistry changed, but even the original guys were not the same people anymore. And they were no longer thrash metal.
Their latest album is great. It's a return to Thrash Metal (my personal favorite genre) It sounds like a mix of And Justice For All and the Black Album, but in a good way. The vocals aren't what they were when he was young, but I think for the most part he did a great job.
You can either love or hate Metallica, but they are already legends and most of them aren't even dead yet.
I hope they do another Thrash Metal album and another.

They must have done something right:
The band has won nine Grammy Awards, and has had five consecutive albums debut at number one on the Billboard 200, making Metallica the only band ever to do so.

Metallica totally stole Testament's style in the early 80s.

But my favorite Metallica song is probably Master of Puppets.

ES bores me, Master of Puppets, more like Master of being overrated! I don't really like any of 'Tallica's albums after Ride The Lightning, so I'm going to say Creeping Death, live version more than the studio.

Damage Inc. is a severely underrated song. I happen to love it to death.
My list goes (At this point in time, it changes)
Human
Sad But True
Sandman
Damage Inc.
Whiplash (Live Shit version)
Battery
Bells
Leper Messiah
...And Justice For All
Shortest Straw
Orion (the whole song makes me feel deep... Can't explain the feeling better than that.)
Devil's Dance (S&M Version)
Am I Evil
Stone Cold Crazy
I know, I used nicknames on some, but I like to call them what the guys in Metallica call them. :p

They must have done something right:
If Grammys and Billboard positions are indications of quality that means Alison Krauss and Mariah Carey must be among the best artists in the world.

It all comes down to opinion. Hell, this thread is about opinion. People have different tastes. I agree on the point that grammys are bullshitt, but just because you don't like something doesn't mean that it's horrible.
Unless it's Hannah Montanna, or The Jonas Brothers, in which case I would encourage you to join my "Ainti-Pop" army. The Anti-pop is already a member weather he wants to be or not. Our existence is devoted to make the music industry about music again! We believe that this industry needs a kick in the ass! Whatta ya say?

Of course it's about opinions! There's no such thing as objectivity when it comes to art.
I do believe that the 2000s has been one of the best decades for music, especially with the garage rock revival, so I don't think it's necessary for me to join such a group. :) Sure, a lot of shit is produced now, but that has always been the case. I don't think the ratio of good music - bad music is worse now than during any previous decade, if anything it's the contrary.

This is the 80's of our generation. I assume the next decade will be like the 70's. Hopefully like the 90's, due to AIC's comeback. I hate to say grunge, but I really do miss that era. So many great tunes were made. I hope it comes back to making music, and not making generic stuff just because everybody will like it, like it seems now.

I'm surprised only one person said Nothing Else Matters. It's a great song, I thought it would get more love.
So that and (I'll give you a top 5):
No Leaf Clover
One
Sanitarium
Master of Puppets
Best 'tallica song is Creeping Death for me.
Do some people actually say "'tallica"?

Master of Puppets for me. It's the king of metal songs. The chorus riff is awesome, especially when it returns for the first time after the solo section.
I like the bit in Don't Tread on Me starting "so be it..." and I imagine myself playing The Unforgiven solo quite often.

Ride the Lightning
Awesome from beginning to end, and I love the ridiculous lyrics!
