So I was at Big Lots today while visiting my friend, they had some games really cheap. Most of them were indie titles (Like Penumbra)
Anyways, I'll have to check out the Big Lots in my state when I get back, see if they have any, I'll make a list and ask if anyone's played them/if they are worth buying.
Anyways, they were 6 bucks each.
I got-
PainKiller Overdose
Quake Wars
Prey
Are any of these worth the 6 bucks? I heard Painkiller is fun for mindless action. Have not heard much of Quake Wars. Heard Prey was bad by most people lol, one friend liked it..

Quake Wars most definitely, extremely fun multiplayer game.

Oh really? Sweet. I had heard very little about it, and get it confused with Crysis Wars..

It's technically the sequel to Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, if you've ever played that.
Same basic concept, but with Quake themed weapons, vehicles, and the like.

Prey's soundtrack is pretty good, don't know anything about the game.

There was massive amounts over hype of Quake Wars, it's good but sadly less than what was originally made out to be.
But for $6, steal.

Quake Wars has been at a ridiculously low price point for most of its shelf-life. I avoided it simply because I couldn't imagine how something that became cheap so quick would actually have an active community around it, at a time when the Multiplayer FPS became such a hotly contested genre...
Painkiller and Prey similarly dropped to their low-price points quickly, but as single-player games their shelf-life isn't effected. Nonetheless, I always see them cheap and available, but I never buy them. But when I have games like Company of Heroes, FEAR, Psychonauts, STALKER and Thief 1-3 in my collection, barely played, I tend to look at 'great, so long as it's cheap' games and think I've got bigger fish to fry.
edit: Generally with PC games, it's very rare I pay over £15 for anything. Reason being somewhere between my tightness and the fact that they just plummet in price so quickly.

Prey is a low end masterpiece. I bought it on sale for 99 cents at gogamer.com a while back. Had I known it was this good, I would have payed forty times that when it was new.

Masterpiece eh?

Prey was fairly entertaining but it really has almost no replay value.
It felt like a spruced up Doom 3.

Masterpiece sounds a bit extreme. Never played Prey myself but I heard it was pretty standard fare.

Let us know how well populated the servers for Quake Wars are. I have been thinking of getting it myself.

Yeah, me too.
I played the demo to death and I see now that it's $20 on Steam.
Extremely tempted to get it.

I said low end masterpiece! Meaning for the dollar that I spent on it, I had a blast.
Low-end masterpiece =/= masterpiece.

and this...
Upside combat is a neat feature that should have been used in more games.

PainKiller Overdose - is a great game and I have no idea "why" its in the bargain bin. The music can get old rather quickly. But just turn that off and fire up winamp in the background. The game play is fast and intense to the point where its been compared to the original Quake.
Some of the level design from painkiller was taken from historical points all across Europe. The attention to detail and the graphics are amazing.
Just about all of the weapons have a dual fire mode, like the rocket launcher is also a min-gun. So when the action get fast and intense, you can lay down some firepower without having to switch weapons.
Painkiller overdose is the kind of game you look at and say - "why wasn't this game more popular?" Its an over looked title that has a lot to offer. But was released with bad timing in the game market and stiff competition. With a few modifications, it could have left its mark on the gaming industry.

I agree about this being one of the best games of all time.
But I only see it as 5 € around here, which makes it an even better deal.

I've been told by many to get Beyond Good and Evil.
I have not because every time I watch something on it, it looks horrifically bad. Maybe I will one day.

It's a consolized pile of shit that should never be played on the PC unless you have a gamepad.
I found it a huge chore to try and play with the keyboard and mouse.

Prey was eh, alright. It had some unique aspects, but could have been something spectacular if it wasn't for so many of the obvious problems.
(Worst was the ghost children)
It was worth 6 bucks. Enjoyable for 2 days.
I was there today, they had a bunch of WWII shooters, some game called Genesis that looked like Eve, some other crappy titles.(some FPS called exodus from earth? looked bad)
I picked up an extra copy of Quake Wars for my brother because it was so cheap. That game is a lot of fun. There are some nice servers too.

Definitely considering that.
How 'bout Blueberry Garden? $5. Extremely short game, but the game mechanics are pretty amazing. And plus, it's beautiful.

There are 272 servers, and I would estimate that between 40-50 of those have between 12-24 players in them.
The rest are usually empty.

Right now Target stores in the US have Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction (PS3) and Gran Turismo: Prologue (PS3) for $14.98 and $9.98, respectively. Absolutely incredible deal. The guy at the register could not believe it!!
