Japanese Fender Jaguar

Around two months ago I ordered a Fender Japan Jaguar Left Handed through a guitar shop in the United States (I live in Canada) called South Paw Guitars. The guitar arrived on Tuesday, and... The guitar is either 15 years old or its a knock off and they were trying to rip me off.

The guitar plays well, feels great, and sure the bridge is a major piece of shit but that is to be expected when you're buying a Jaguar.

What do you guys think? Is this thing nearly old enough to start taking driving lessons or do I now own an over-priced knock off?

You said it plays well, what else matters? If you are learning guitar then I wouldn't be too worried about what kind you use.

That's an odd looking Jaguar, the headstock especially. But if it sounds good to you and you're happy with it that's really all that matters.

Looks reeeeaaallly strange. I don't think I've seen a lefty before. I kept feeling like the image was mirrored.

But it does look pretty cool TBH. I'm not a guitar guy so I can't tell you if it's authentic.

I have a black and metallic jaguar but I really wanted one with a whammy, I think they are fantastic.

there's a serial number on it. Why not call Fender and see if it's legit.

Im Canadian so no there aren't any Guitar Centers anywhere near me, and they had the price lower then that when I made the purchase. Jaguars will run you around a thousand here in north america. The fact that I got my left-handed jaguar from japan for not a whole lot more then that is pretty damn good if you ask me.

I already own a telecaser, and the strat has never really gotten me very excited.

It looks like none of the lefties have the name jaguar on the headstock. Very strange.

Well, the place was recommended by the major musical instrument retailer in my area (Long and McQuade) and by a few other lefty guitarists. So I put my faith in them because in all honesty I had no where else to turn to. When your a left handed guitar player you kind of have to go through the back door if you will to get the instrument you want.

i used to know a guy who owned a beautiful japanese tele. funnily enough, it played better than a lot of american teles. absolutely gorgeous thick sound.

its likely your guitar is just an old model, hence why the price was high.
japanese fenders tend to be worth a good bit sometimes. just throw some new strings on there (elixir), make some bridge adjustments to get the action uniform, and don't forget to roll back the tone knob on some of the pickup switch settings. give it some warmth.

Word, leaving the tone nob at full for the bridge pickup is ear suicide.

Pretty much this is the best guitar i've ever touched, though im planning on replacing the jag bridge with a mustang bridge so the strings will stop jumping.

Theres a reason Kurt Cobain bought Japanese Fender Mustangs, because they were cheap, they worked well, and they were easily disposable.

They aren't permanent guitars, they are gig smashing guitars.
