Post links to free downloadable games that are quite good.

Things like abandonware or freeware.
Not shitty flash games.

Ideally I would like some kind of simulator.

This is a good game:

A arcade racing/stunting(kind of) game, especially fun to play online.

Just came across this.

http://www.futurepinball.com/

Pinball emulator that allows custom tables.

Centaur:

Centaur was always my favorite. Make sure you try that one. Every time I go to my bro's house I always play this pinball machine. This computer version is obviously not as good as the real thing, but still awesome none the less.

There are many tables available for the emulator. You can even download custom tables or create your own!

You can modify the graphics quality and turn off the game room rendering. There are tons of reflections and ball dirt, etc. that you can turn on or off. I was able to adjust it to play smoothly on an ancient FX5200 PCI card. There are some really nice graphics options if you have a decent video card.

This guy made several tables, including Centaur, which you can download here:
http://www.light66.dk/fp/index.htm

Massive collection of tables here: (check it)

Another huge collection of tables here:
http://www.irpinball.org/

A couple nice tables here:
http://www.gopinball.com/

3 modern tables here:

I'm just going to download all the tables.

Mmm, check out that Wikipedia link, its got a link to an open source X-Com game.

I downloaded it and played it, its very similar to the original (much more so than any other clone), and updates the graphics and sounds.

@Virus, thanks for reminding me of that game. It's one of those indie games that I've been really meaning to check out. All these other games look great too!
