Stop zombies moving from the right of the screen to the left by growing offensive plats. Sounds a bit cack, and not dissimilar to various other games, but this is meant to be a league above the rest (Edge say 9/10).

Links?
edit:
k, since Warbie failed to supply us with more info and links.
Here. (http://www.popcap.com/games/pvz) It's a Popcap game, so it's no surprise that it's going to be good.
Was waiting for them to finally pick up on the tower defense craze.

So basically another one of a million new "tower defense" games? Asking not telling, btw. If so, no thanks. The last fifty tower defense games soured this genre for me. Like the art style though.

My thoughts exactly, which is why I was surprised by such a glowing review (the other games were scraping 6s and 7s). This is meant to be more involved, strategic, balanced and varied than what we've seen before. We'll find out soon enough.

Wow, didn't see the score. Guess I'll have to at least read up on this one.
PC Gamer gave it 90% in their latest issue :D

That is awesome!
Does that video not explain to everyone how good this game should be?

Some games try too hard to be funny and quirky.
Some hl2.netters try too hard to be critical.

That video was very amusing, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I don't really play tower defense games, but I will check this one out.

There's (http://files.filefront.com/Plants+vs+Zombies+Demo/;13708445;/fileinfo.html) and demo out now.
30 minute trial.
It's alright, I thought it was going to be a bit repetitive but it introduces little changes that are enough to keep me wanting to play more.
Wish there was more to the tower defense portion itself though, it's very basic.
edit: I think I'll buy this actually.
49 different defenses, sweet Jesus.
Yeah there is a lot more than what you are gonna see in the preview, a whole load more :D

I am kind of sad to hear that the Tower Defense part is very lacking....that's the main reason I wanted to get it, plus the whole "Cute" factor of it.
Some reviews for your reading pleasure, more should be going live now the embargo has been lifted:

Yeah, there's no twisting passages for the enemies to go through or anything, they move in a straight line towards your home in 5 or 6 rows, I mean... the slow income of sun power thingies is the only thing that makes it even remotely challenging.
But, the combination of different defenses and stuff should be more than enough to keep any casual gamer occupied.(basically me now, since I've been technologically handicapped)
And it seems like every few levels you'll get a minigame of sorts like potato bowling and things like that.

Yes it Does.
The only reason I pre-ordered this game.

Son of a bitch this gets damn hard.
At 2-9 and nearly got my ass beat because of the Michael Jackson Thriller dance squad of zombies, they're tough because M.J. can resurrect his zombies, which themselves act like a shield protecting him.
This was definitely worth the $10 on Popcap's website.
